I just love puff pastry - such a versatile ingredient that can be filled with just about anything! If you're looking for the perfect treat to munch on during the holidays, this Apple Streusel is sure to be a hit.
Filled with walnuts and brown sugar, this confection tastes oh, so yummy with ice cream and even maple syrup on top (if you're feeling fancy). It looks absolutely beautiful when it comes out of the oven, but it'll be our little secret when you realize how easy this is to make!
- 1 roll of puff pastry
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup butter, chopped small
- 1 apple, peeled and chopped
- Flour for rolling
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Brown sugar for topping
- Vanilla ice cream for topping (if desired)
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup for topping (if desired)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface with a rolling pin.
Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle over the inside of pastry.
Sprinkle walnuts and press into pastry. Sprinkle apple pieces over pastry. Sprinkle chunks of butter evenly and press into pastry.
Roll pastry as firm as possible. Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with sugar, and bake for approximately 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees, then bake for another 10-15 minutes.
Slice and serve with vanilla ice cream and maple drizzle if desired.
