Britney Spears Drops Everything To Be With Her Ailing Dad

Pop singer Britney Spears has put her entire schedule - including her upcoming Las Vegas residency - on hold as she tends to her sick father, Jamie.

Spears, 37, revealed that her dad suffered a "life-threatening" colon rupture in an emotional post on Friday.

"I don't even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say," Spears tweeted.

"I will not be performing my new show Domination. I've been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart."

"However," she continued, "it's important to always put your family first... and that's the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We're all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him."

Spears shared the news with a throwback photo of herself with Jamie and her mother, Lynne.

The elder Spears reportedly underwent emergency surgery in November after his colon "spontaneously ruptured," and spent 28 days recovering in the hospital.

While Jamie, 66, is expected to make a full recovery, Spears says she wants to dedicate her "focus and energy to care for my family" until he's back on his feet.

The pair have a close bond, as Spears once said her father saved her life during a time when her behavior was becoming erratic.

"I probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him," she told the Daily Star. Jamie was named the conservator of his daughters affairs and her estate in 2008, following her highly publicized time in rehab, and continues to hold those titles to this day.

While the singer's Domination residency at the Park MGM next month, Spears says those plans are now delayed indefinitely.

"We have a very special relationship," she said in a statement obtained by People, "and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me."

It's no small sacrifice for Spears either: her new residency was set to pay her more than $500,000 a show, which would have made her the highest-paid performer in Las Vegas.

But the decision is not so surprising, as Spears has been outspoken about putting her family - including her sons Sean, 13, and Jayden, 12  - before anything else.

"My kids come first in my life, bottom line," the singer told People.

The "Oops, I Did It Again" singer also thanked fans for their "prayers and support" throughout her difficult time.

While missing out on a chance to see Spears live is a blow for her fans, refunds are available from the singer's website and the point of purchase, according to her statement.
