I loved watching Charmed back in the day, and I'm not going to lie, I've re-watched many of episodes when they were made available on Netflix in 2016.

So as you can imagine, I was really excited when I heard that there would be another chance for fans like me to become invested in the fictional lives of a coven of sister-witches, who used their gift to protect their town from evil.

Last November, The CW made the official announcement that Charmed would be returning for the first time since its finale aired in 2006. However, like all the other revivals taking place this year, there will be some major changes.

The show, which is expected to air during the 2018-2019 season, will feature a progressive twist, according to the official description.

"This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches," read the description. "Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch's work is never done."

Fans were initially excited about the fact that the new story opens up an opportunity for the original cast members, Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Rose McGowan to reprise their respective roles as Pheobe, Prue, Piper, and Paige, but it doesn't seem like that'll be the case.

The network revealed the new actresses who will be playing the new generation of Halliwells - except they're actually not Halliwells. The new trio of sisters have Pruitt as their surname.

So who are the new sister-witches?

Sarah Jeffery as Madison Pruitt

Sarah Jeffery, who has recently starred in shows like Descendants: Wicked World and Shades of Blue, will portray the youngest of the Pruitt sisters, Madison. She's said to be an athletic college student who has a hard time coming to terms with the idea of being a witch.

Melonie Diaz as Mel Pruitt

Melonie Diaz, recognizable from her stint on TV shows like Elementary and Girls, will play Mel Pruitt. According to TV Line, Mel is "a strong-willed feminist, she feels deeply and is a bit controlling."

As mentioned in the official description, the show will be pushing the envelopes and one of the ways in which they'll be doing it is through the sexual preferences of the characters. Mel is a lesbian and will be paired up with Detective Soo Jin.

Her power is the ability to freeze time.

Madeliene Mantock as Macy

Madeliene Mantock, best known for her roles in The Tomorrow People and Into the Badlands, will play Macy. Her character, the oldest of the trio, is described as "a witty, intense science nerd" in her late 20s.

Macy also hold a "Ph.D in quantum physics" and moves with her boyfriend, Galvin, to Hiltowne, Michigan, "to work in the university lab." "Macy has reason to believe that she is the sister of Mel and Madison. Her power is telekinesis."

While some of us are just excited that finding a cast in an indication that the reboot is coming together well, others, including some of the former cast members, don't approve of the revival.

Holly Marie Combs has been especially vocal about her feelings.

When the rumors first started circulating back in 2013, Combs sent out a tweet addressing the news. It read: "The thing about them doing a #charmed reboot is... it just... it feels like yesterday. It feels too close."  While her co-star McGowan called it "lame, lame, lame, lamertons."

A few years later, and it looks like not too much has changed when it comes to their feelings about the reboot.

As the project is starting to come to fruition, Combs once again took to Twitter to express how she truly felt about the entire situation.

It's clear that she doesn't like where this is going, which means that we should probably quit hoping she would appear on the new show.

"Here's the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don't even think of capitalizing on our hard work," she tweeted. "Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye."

Shannen Doherty was a little more diplomatic than her former co-stars when she sent out a tweet about the upcoming show.

"I'm intrigued by the idea that a new generation might be comforted, inspired like all you were. Charmed helped us all in some way," she wrote.

Doherty also thinks that this is a great opportunity for women to get more roles, and she'll always get behind a project that allows that. In fact, she's set to appear in another reboot. She'll making an appearance in Heathers.
