Chrissy Teigen Gives Best Answer For Why She Didn't Take John Legend's Last Name

Many ancient traditions surrounding engagement and marriage are still practiced today, including the exchange of wedding rings, the bride's father walking her down the aisle, and women taking their new husband's last name. But in regards to the latter, not every married couple shares the same last name. In fact, some women decide to stick with their own "” a choice that's intrigued many, including Twitter user @_MercyFul.

That's why she decided to ask why some women chose not to take their husband's last name after getting married.

I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind women who won't take their husband's last name "” Maami (@_MercyFul) August 20, 2017

Some answered simply, stating that they just preferred their own names.

What's wrong with my name? "” here. (@oyin_za) August 20, 2017

Absolutely nothing. But what's wrong with his that you don't want to take it when you get married, yano? "” Maami (@_MercyFul) August 20, 2017

My name is my name, his name is his name "” here. (@oyin_za) August 20, 2017

Others pointed out that the tradition was nothing more than that "” a tradition, and one that was created by men.

it would feel like losing a part of myself. Also why should I take his and he not take mine .Who created this tradition ?Men did

But it was model and Twitter superstar Chrissy Teigen, known for her legendary clapbacks, who gave the best (and funniest) answer:

my husband didn't even take his last name? https://t.co/BMo6OsgcVv "” christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 22, 2018

"My husband didn't even take his last name," she wrote.

Teigen's right "” she's married to actor and musician John Legend, whose given name is actually John Roger Stephens. And who can argue with that reasoning? If Legend didn't even want to keep his own given name, how could Teigen be expected to take it herself?

All this said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a woman taking her husband's last name. But when a woman is perfectly happy with keeping her own, she definitely shouldn't be judged for it.
