While Colin Firth has made a name for himself starring in hit romantic comedy films, he's already found his happy ending.

The Bridget Jones's Diary and Love Actually actor has been married to Italian film producer Livia Giuggioli since 1997.

By all accounts, the pair seemed to have a perfectly happy Hollywood romance. Dividing their time between England and Italy, the couple have two sons together, Matteo and Luca.

But a surprising twist in their love story was revealed this week, when the couple filed a criminal complaint in Italy.

The Stalker

The pair allege that an Italian journalist, Marco Brancaccia, has been stalking them for months.

In a statement, a spokesman for the couple says the journalist sent them threatening text messages. e-mails, phone calls, and threatened to write unflattering stories about the couple.

They say that Bracaccia carried out a "frightening campaign" of  abuse against them.

The Affair

But Brancaccia has fired back with his own stunning claim: that Giuggioli is trying to cover up her affair with him from years ago.

After Brancaccia revealed the affair to The Times, the couple confirmed it took place in a statement, saying Firth and Giuggioli made "the decision to separate" in 2015.

Giuggioli then began an affair with Brancaccia, who is called a "former friend" of hers in the statement. But she and Firth add that they are now back together.

While police are investigating Bracaccia for harassing the pair, he's sharing his side of the story, and says his affair with the producer almost tore the famous couple apart.

"She wanted to leave Colin for me."

Brancaccia insists that he was "romantically involved" with Giuggioli during her split from Firth, and says she "wanted to leave Colin for me."

He also admits to sending messages to the pair, but denies he was harassing or stalking them.

"My "˜stalking' consisted of two messages via WhatsApp after she ended our relationship in June 2016, and an e-mail," he told The Times.

He added in an interview with The Sun that he sent Firth an e-mail revealing his relationship with Giuggioli, "which I now regret sending."

"She filed a complaint against me for stalking out of fear that I could go public with what she revealed to me about her marriage and work," he claims.

"In a year she sent me hundreds of messages of love, photos and videos, even a diary."

Bracaccia even claims Firth sent him a "very understanding" reply by e-mail.

She Said, He Said

The journalist also says police have seized his phone and computer as they investigate the complaint.

Aside from her statement, Brancaccia seems to have addressed the case on Instagram.

Sharing a photo that read, "What would this chapter of your life be called?" she commented "#timesup."

We'll have to wait and see what the investigation turns up about this case!
