Company Issues Immediate Recall Of Popular Breakfast Food Due To Bacterial Contamination

Stop what you're doing right now, because a New Jersey-based food company has issued a major recall of packaged frozen products you've probably eaten for breakfast.

On Friday May 5th, Pinnacle Foods issued a warning to the public not to consume the affected product after they discovered Listeria monocytogenes at the place of production. While an official recall from the FDA has not be released, you'll want to check your freezer right away.

"We are working in coordination with the Food and Drug Administration," Pinnacle Foods said in a statement.

Listeria poisoning is a serious infection that causes fever, headaches, vomiting, and other flu-like symptoms. It can be potentially fatal for young children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems. In addition, it can cause miscarriage in pregnant women or birth defects to the baby.

The products called into question were distributed to retail locations across the United States and Mexico, so if you bought Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes, waffles, or French toast recently, you could be affected. The recall does not include syrups or packages mixes.

Although no illnesses have been reported yet, the company is encouraging people not to consume the products. Instead, they advise throwing it out or returning it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
