Couple Gives Waitress $400 Tip, But It Was Only The Beginning

Going to college is something a lot of people take for granted, but it's a lot of money and not everyone who wants to go can afford to. For Cayla Chandara, this was all too true. She had moved to Honolulu, Hawaii to go to school but when she ran out of money she had to drop out and take two serving jobs to try to pay back her loans.

Cayla was working at Noi Thai Cuisine when a couple from Australia came in for dinner. They hit it off and chatted through the night. At one point Cayla explained why she was in Honolulu and that she had dropped out of school. When she brought them their $200 bill at the end of the night, the couple generously left a tip that was twice the amount of their meal.

"I just thought it was so generous of them. I never get tipped that big. I had to say thank you. During dinner, they told me where they were staying, so I ran there after work to see if they'd still be there," Cayla said.

She delivered some flowers and a card and thanked them for everything they did for her. She was touched by their generosity but she had no idea what would come next. The next day the couple returned to the restaurant and offered Cayla something else.

The couple said they wanted to pay off all of Cayla's student debt as well as the remainder of her tuition so she could go back to school. The student loan was over $10,000 on its own.

"I was like, "˜No way, you don't have to do that for me. I just wanted to say thank you,'" Cayla said. "I still don't feel like it's real. I want to run around in the streets."

She refused the incredible offer initially, but they were insistent. Cayla says that "They really changed my life and I don't know how to thank them. I will make them proud and do whatever I can to be the best person I can be."
