Michael Mantenuto, who portrayed Olympic champion Jack O'Callaham in the 2004 Disney film 'Miracle' has died. Police found Mantenuto in his car, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gun shot.
He was just 35 years old.
Mantenuto's first role was in 'Miracle' which combined his hockey skills and desire to act. It was his most well-known role, and after his acting career fizzled, Mantenuto joined the special forces.
"It's always been my intention to pursue an acting career. Fortunately, my hockey background helped open the door for me to do that," Mantenuto stated. "I was working on this fishing boat trapping eels before I got cast in this movie, so I felt like I was stepping off a boat and into a dream."
Mantenuto leaves behind his wife, Kati Vienneau, and two kids, Ava and Leo.
"Those of you that knew Mike will remember him for his passionate love for his family and his commitment to the health of the force," said the commander of U.S. Army's 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) Col. Guillaume Beaurpere.
Rest in peace, Michael. We hope you have found the healing you needed.
