Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell Are Back On Screen Together, But You Won't See It In Theaters

Netflix

Goldie Hawn has been a mega star for decades, and her long-time partner shines just as brightly. In almost everything they do they steal the show, but it's when they are together that real movie magic happens.

It makes sense, since the couple first met on a movie set. In 1968 they both starred in The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. The movie is largely forgotten, but it sparked something far more important: Hollywood's best romance.

The pair have been in three movies together. The first one they met in, 1984's Swing Shift, and the huge hit Overboard. That was in 1987 and the pair hasn't worked together since...until now.

Netflix is known for streaming a lot of great movies, but they've also been producing a lot of hits themselves. The Christmas Chronicles looks like its the biggest hit of the season so far, but you won't find it in theaters.

It was just released on the streaming service and had over 20 million streams in its first week alone. That's huge.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, compared the 20 million streams to big box office movies.

"If every one of those was a movie-ticket purchase, that's a $200 million opening week."

To put that in perspective, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the movie with the best opening week on record, at $248 million.

Neither Russell or Hawn has ever come close to that individually, but with a little Christmas miracle they've done it now.

The Christmas Chronicles is a perfect family Christmas movie about children trying to help Santa save Christmas. Russell plays a not-so-jolly St. Nick, and Hawn plays a very sultry Mrs. Claus. It's perfect casting!

It's also a family affair. The couple's son Oliver makes an appearance, and their grandson, Bing Bellamy, shows up too.

It was an unexpected onscreen reunion, but one that we would have put on our Christmas wish list if we thought about it. Looks like Santa thought of everything this year!
