Harrison Ford Continues To Be A Real Life Hero

Daily Mail/Evening Standard

Over the course of his decades long Hollywood career, Harrison Ford has played his fair share of heroes. But it is his recent actions as a real life hero that have been garnering him attention. This week, Ford had been driving on the freeway near Santa Barbara, California, when the car in front of him veered off of the road and down a steep embankment.

Ford immediately pulled over and jumped out of his vehicle to head down the embankment to make sure everyone was okay. He, along with some other good Samaritans managed to get the driver, a young woman, out of her car before the paramedics had even arrived to treat her. The woman was transferred to hospital with minor injuries.

This isn't the first time that Ford has put his own self-interests aside in order to come to the rescue. In 2001 a Boy Scout troop was on a camping trip in Yellowstone Park in Wyoming when one of their members, 13-year-old Cody Clawson, got separated from the group and was lost in the wilderness.

Ford, who had a house in Jackson, Wyoming, immediately jumped in to join the rescue effort. He piloted his own helicopter to help search.

It was actually Ford from his chopper that spotted young Cody. When the rescuers got to him, they told Cody that Harrison Ford was the helicopter pilot. It wasn't until Cody saw who was in the pilot's seat that he actually believed what had happened. Now 26, and married with a child, recalls what that was like. "The way he said it reminded me so much of his role of Hans Solo in Star Wars." 'Then I was like, "Oh my God, Han Solo has just rescued me, how cool is that."'

When Haiti was rocked by a shattering earthquake, Ford flew his own plane, filled with medical volunteers and other emergency supplies to the ravaged nation. Ford ended up making several trips over the course of two days. In total he flew 20 volunteers which included; surgeons, nurses, and an anesthetist.
