An Australian mother is still reeling after she saw something deadly in this photo of her young daughter.

Bianca Dickinson from Victoria was taking photos of her daughter Molly on their property when she saw something shocking.

"I guess I was focused on her so I didn't see anything else... Then I saw this flash and I just thought it was bark coming off the tree," she told news.com.au.

"When I looked up it was already halfway past, I could see the tail between Molly's legs. I think it was touching her boots it was that close."

What she had noticed was an Eastern Brown Snake, the country's second deadliest species and the one responsible for more deaths in Australia than any other.

In Bianca's photos you can see this deadly animal is only inches from her child, who has no idea the danger she's in.

As soon as she noticed the snake, Bianca froze in place. Luckily, her daughter copied her and the snake left her alone.

Australia is home to many dangerous creatures, but no parent expects a close encounter like this.

"We know that they are out there but I guess we don't have them come that close to us," Bianca said.

"Every time I shut my eyes I see that big snake and what could have happened. I see Molly being taken away in an ambulance."

As for Molly, when her mother showed her the photos she simply said "that's me."

If it wasn't for her mother's quick thinking and a little luck, there's no telling what could have happened.
