A homeless man in Salt Lake City, Utah, recently put a tiny chihuahua's needs ahead of his own when he selflessly rescued the tiny thing from a busy highway after someone dumped him there. The community responded to his kindness in the most amazing possible way.
THE RESCUE
A resident of Salt Lake, Angel Janes, was on her way home from work when she noticed a man sitting near a freeway exit that was close to her home. The man was holding a sign asking for money or work, but it was the tiny bundle in his arms that Angel was more interested in, though.
Angel decided to stop to offer the man a cigarette. As she approached him, she realized he was holding a tiny dog wrapped in a blanket.
After talking with Ron for a few minutes, Angel learned that he saw a woman dump the little dog from her car onto the busy highway. As soon as he realized the little guy was going to be all alone on the streets just like he was, he decided to do something about it.
While Ron was certainly enjoying the little guy's company, he knew that he deserved a shot at finding a real home. Together, Angel and Ron decided to try and find a home for the little guy.
"He was not going to let this dog get ran over or hurt, his first instinct was to go out of his way to save this poor puppy. Ron believes that every life matters and made it his goal to go out of his way to save this puppy and find him a home. What is extraordinary about this situation is that Ron doesn't have a home himself, yet his goal was to find this abandoned puppy a home," said a witness on Facebook.
A FAMILY
Angel posted about the situation on Facebook, and soon the story was spreading like wildfire. A friend of Angel's shared the post to a vegan page called Salt Lake Vegan, and everyone was shocked at the quick results.

In a matter of just a few minutes, a woman named Lisa and her child were on their way to rescue the little guy. When they arrived on the scene, everyone was ecstatic and crying as they thanked Ron for saving the little guy's life.
His new family named the dog Gepetto, but the story doesn't end there.

Ron's story doesn't end there. Angel decided to go a step further, and her and a friend Kathleen started a GoFundMe campaign in the hopes of helping Ron get back on his feet.
In just 13 days, the ladies have raised over $6000 for Ron.
After the total reached over $500, Angel delivered some of the money to Ron. He just couldn't believe the community stepped up to help him as well as the dog.
"Are you sure this is for me?" said Ron. "From who, from who? Who would do this for me? A homeless man?"
If more people were selfless like Angel and Ron, this world would fix itself. I say it all the time if you see an opportunity to help, why wouldn't you? There are a million things in the world to break us that we have no power over. So why wouldn't you step up when you have a real chance at making a difference for someone?

UPDATE WITH RON: Met with Ron tonight to give him all the money that was donated. I wish i could have got his original reaction because he was seriously freaking out, crying, and kept saying, "Are you sure this is for me!? From who, from who!? Who would do this for me!!?? For a homeless man!!??" I told him it was from the community, giving back because they were inspired by him and want to make sure he has a happy ending just like that dog that he saved from getting hit by a car and found a good warm home for. He said multiple times people have loaded up all his belongings in a truck and drove off with it. That people usually call him horrible names, so he just couldn't believe it. He looked through the envelope like 10 times because he really couldn't believe it. He said he promises that he will not let us down!! He was like, "This man isn't sleeping on the street tonight!!!" Then the second thing he said he was going to do was to go to get a phone so he can stay connected. I have literally never seen anyone so excited in my life and shed a couple tears myself, seriously a million dollar response. He wanted to donate some of it for food for the dog, I told him we got it under control. All of you are soooo amazing. You gave him the will to fight the good fight. Keeping the go fund me up for a little bit longer in case anyone anyone wants to donate. Not every day you get to hand a homeless man $400 plus dollars, thanks everyone!
