You’ve heard of the terrible twos: a period of time marked by temper tantrums when toddlers overuse the word “no.”
Well, dogs go through that stage too, when they’re puppies. They’re always cute, like a two-year-old toddler, but they can be demanding, non-responsive, and prone to tantrums when they don’t get their own way.

That’s exactly what happened to one Newfoundland, except the surprising thing isn’t when the dog–Samson–throws his tantrum. Rather, it’s when he’s reined in, it’s not his mom putting a stop to things, but rather his best friend, Sierra. Who knew such sweet dogs would throw a temper tantrum like a toddler?
Raised around dogs her whole life thus far, Sierra isn’t afraid to tell Samson when he’s getting out of control. She’s firm but kind with him, and whenever Samson gets too pushy or demanding, it’s Sierra who brings him back into line with her commanding voice.
Newfoundlands, or Newfies for short, are sweet-tempered and gentle dogs. They do grow to be huge sizes and live about 8-10 years. In the country of their origin, Canada, true Newfies are black or Landseer in color. In other countries, they are white and black, brown, or black. These dogs were originally bred and used as a working dog for fishermen. They are known for their excellent water rescue/lifesaving skills because of their muscular build, webbed feet, and innate swimming abilities. They are also super fuzzy and cute.
If you own a Newfie, be prepared for a lot of shedding because of their long coat. Also, be prepared for a lot of drooling on hot days or in warmer climates. Those thick coats get pretty hot which is why they were originally bred in such a cold climate.
