Rescue Worker Finds Puppies, Tossed in Garbage, Clinging to Life

IT WAS FREEZING

One frigid morning an animal shelter worker saw a package outside the door that wasn't there the night before. This package wasn't the exciting kind, however, when they went to investigate they heard a pitiful sound coming from inside the crate.

When everyone peered into the bin what they saw staring back sent them into immediate action. There were ten tiny puppies in that box, and they were clinging to life and crying weakly for help.

The workers were horrified at the puppies condition. They knew that if they didn't get to work straight away that the little guys would not make it.

Their tiny little eyes aren't even open yet.

IT WAS SO COLD

Granted, the shelter is located in a rural area in Del Rio, Texas, so usually, it doesn't get very cold. However, this particular day was one of the coldest days of the year there, so the poor little puppies were nearly frozen.

The little puppers were left there without anything to cover them up to keep them warm.

"They were left in that bin like trash."

The shelter workers knew that the first thing they needed to do was get the little guys warmed up. They knew that the puppies needed to eat, but also knew that if they tried to feed them when they were too cold that it could kill them.

You see, feeding a cold puppy is indeed a death sentence. If you give a cold puppy milk, it will curdle in their tummy, and it will die. So, job number one was to get the tiny fighters warmed up.

STEP TWO

Once the babies were all warmed up, it was time to evaluate their condition. What the staff found then angered them even further.

The poor little guys were quite a bit older than the shelter workers had originally thought. They were still so tiny because their growth was stunted. The puppies were starving and so neglected they weren't growing properly.

"They were just thrown in there "“ piled like garbage, thrown in the trash. There was no care, no respect. Awful."

TOUCH AND GO

The munchkins were in really bad shape. Workers knew that it would be touch and go for the little puppers.

Stacey Silverstein is a co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC and has been rescuing abused and abandoned animals for a long time. She has seen some pretty horrific things.

She was absolutely horrified at the condition in which they found these little puppies, and she was very angry, as well. The condition of those little guys had everyone at the shelter in a very bad mood that day.

FOSTER CARE

Silverstein's group got involved after she saw a post about the puppies on Facebook. She got Rescue Dogs Rock NYC volunteers located in Texas on the case, and they quickly got the babies into a good foster home.

I'm certain that there will be people lining up to give these little guys a forever home when the time comes. However, that won't be for quite some time yet. These little dudes have quite a bit of healing to do.

They have a lot of growing up to do, and it will be a lot of hard work to get them healthy again.

You can help these little fighters, though, don't despair. You can send donations to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC and help get these guys the care they need until they can find their forever homes.
