Shelter Longest-Term Resident Cries All Day Hoping His Forever Family Will Hear Him

Nearly a year ago, Juice was brought to the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center, in Derwood, Maryland. His previous owners told shelter staff that they were moving, and couldn't take Juice with them.

It was a sad story "” but for the most part, Juice did just fine in the shelter.

He was charmingly easygoing, even napping while potential adopters came in for a look.

Juice didn't go home. Still, even as he became the shelter's longest-term resident, he seemed to be holding up ok.

In fact, Juice was so ok, he "was the example we used as a dog who could manage the stress of shelter life without getting depressed," reads a Facebook post the shelter put up on Thursday "” that goes on to say how badly things have changed for Juice, more recently:

But in the past month that changed- he started to lose his confidence. Then he was adopted and we jumped for joy! But it wasn't the right match, and after a couple of days he was back in his kennel, more stressed than ever. Staff started to notice him crying, panting, and pacing more often. One of our staff took him home for a "sleepover" this week to give him a break from the shelter and try to help him relax. But when she brought him back in the morning and put him back in the kennel, he started crying. And didn't stop. All day.

That's what you see in this heartbreaking video. Juice, in his kennel, crying from morning till night.

Juice is a good boy, who will be a great pet, once he's given the chance.

Miranda Hitchcock, who works at the shelter, tells us that "he was awesome" when she took him home for a night, to give the guy a little respite from kennel life. (If you're not familiar with overnights: This is a tried-and-true way to help shelter dogs decompress.)

Juice had no accidents in the house, and did not jump up on the counters.

"He loved my back yard, where he got to run and smell new smells, and you could practically see how happy he was to be free," she says. "Throughout the entire sleepover, he was a total cuddle bug."

He's a big dog with a big heart that's breaking there in the shelter.

We'd really, really like to help Juice find a family, so he can stop crying and start the important business of wagging his tail nonstop in a loving home.

Here's Juice's adoption listing. The shelter will adopt out of state. They are also open to Juice going into a foster home.
