Is your dog a mix?

The canine world is a beautiful place of so many experiences; the more I write and learn about dogs, the more I fall in love with them.

There are hundreds of dog breeds, each with unique characteristics and temperaments. These translate into a visual treat of colors, sizes, and textures. Have you wondered the result of combining some of these distinctive dog breeds? Wonderful things! In fact, the annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which is like the Oscars for dogs, has a category dedicated to mixed breed dogs, otherwise known as "mutts".

Enjoy this roundup of some of our favorite combinations. They are just adorable! Let us know which one is your favorite. Yes, you can even pick more than one...

1. Pitsky (Pitbull + Husky)

Husky Shepherd

The Pitsky is the mix between an American Pit Bull Terrier and a Siberian or Alaskan Husky. They are the perfect companion for dog owners who enjoy being active and engaged with their pet; Pitskies get frustrated if left alone for long periods of time.

2. Chug (Chihuahua + Pug)

PetGuide

How adorable! I want one. This dog is your best bet if you can't decide between a Chihuahua and a Pug. In return, you will have the best of both worlds. Chugs are great for families with children, as well as seniors. They are very affectionate and learn tricks fast. They are very playful and enjoy daily walks.

3. Yoranian (Pomeranian +Yorkie Mix)

Yoranians are also known as "Porkie" or "Yorkie-Pom", are as affectionate as Yorkshire Terriers and as energetic as Pomeranian. These cute dogs can weigh between 3 to 7 pounds and live up to 15 years. Porkies, which are a recognized type of "designer dog", love to exercise and don't enjoy being left alone for a long time. They respond well to training and are very friendly and playful.

4. Chipin (Chihuahua + Miniature Pinscher)

These adorable dogs are also called "minchi" or "chi-pin" and can be born with a number of different coat colors, including: black, tan, black and tan, cream, white, chocolate and golden. They are cheerful, energetic and are very vocal about their protectiveness.  This can be seen when barking to strangers. Chipins require, as most dogs, regular exercise. If they are not involved in daily activities they will end up running around the house barking.

5. Corman Shepherd (Corgi + German Shepherd)

Dogmal

This dog reminds me of "Morgan" our family's German Shepherd who passed away many years ago. Corman Shepherds are perfect companion dogs. They are friendly, energetic, loyal and enjoy being around kids, pets, and adults. These medium sized dogs need to be brushed on a regular basis because they shed and have a dense coat. It is recommended to take them out for a walk at least once a day.

6. Chiweenie (Chihuahua + Dachshund)

Dogtime

Chiweenies, also called "Chiweeni", "Chiweeny", "Chiwee" and "Mexican Hotdog" are perfect dogs for those who live in apartments. They are very friendly and enjoy cuddling with their owner. These mutts can weigh up 12 pounds and are hypoallergenic. Because of their size they don't need a lot of space to play in.

7. Bernedoodle (Bernese Mountain Dog + Poodle)

Swissridge

It is hard to resist this fluffy dog. There are three types of Bernedoodle: the Toy Bernedoodle, which who can weigh between 10 and 24 pounds; the Miniature Bernedoodle ,weighing between 25 and 49 pounds; and the Standard Bernedoodle, weighing 50 pounds or more. They love their family and enjoy being around children. Bernedoodle are very relaxed and love snuggling beside their owners.

8. Cheagle (Chihuahua + Beagle)

PetGuide

What an interesting and adorable mixed dog breed. These loving dogs can come in white, brown, cream and black. Despite being very active dogs, these are also great to snuggle with. Cheagles enjoy a lot of exercise. If you are a Cheagle owner, it is recommended that you exercise your dog at least 30-minutes a day.  Due to their energetic and mischievous nature, the Cheagle can be a bit difficult to train, but with patience, they will learn new tricks.

9. Dalmachshund (Dachshund + Dalmatian)

It is impossible to stay away from this cutie. I want this dog too! The Dalmachshunds are friendly and playful, making wonderful family pets. They are the perfect animals to play fetch with as they enjoy being outside.

10. Bullmatian (English Bulldog + Dalmatian)

Pawedin

Bullmatians have the body of a Bulldog and the spots of a Dalmatian. They are best suited for families living in a house with a big yard. These mutts love to eat! Training can be somewhat challenging and it is important to start at a young age before stubbornness takes root.  Their training requires consistency and a lot of patience. Bullmations are energetic and will be the perfect dog if you enjoy exercising, since they are very active.
