About nine years ago, Doug and Grace Jones, a married couple from Dayton, Nevada, brought home a puppy named Daisy. Someone had taken her to a local Dollar Tree, where their daughter Sarah worked, in the hopes of finding her a new family. Sarah and her parents were more than happy to adopt the pup. Since then, they've been living their best lives with Daisy, taking her hiking, swimming, and enjoying other outdoor activities.
Over the years, Daisy has always remained fairly healthy "” that is, until last summer, when she was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease. Her vet believes this led to a condition called megaesophagus, or an enlarged esophagus. This makes it very difficult for her to eat, causing her to regurgitate food and water.
Fortunately, there's a very helpful fix for dogs with this condition. Bailey chairs keep dogs in an upright position while they eat, making it easier for them to avoid vomiting or aspirating. But rather than purchase one, Doug and his son Brian decided to put their crafting skills to work and build Daisy her own custom highchair.

Now Daisy's family says eating is a breeze for her. In fact, she knows exactly what to do when it's food time! "We laughed in awe because she's so smart," Grace said. "Surprised she got in the chair by herself, but even more so that she pulled down the tray and was ready to eat."
Six months since her diagnosis and Daisy is doing very well. Never thought we would reach this point. She has had only one bout of AP when her antibodies reached normal levels the vet weaned her off medications and she had a relapse. She is so cooperative. I am grateful for the support and information I have gotten from this site. Thanks to all of you.

A smart doggo, indeed! I can't imagine ever being able to train my dogs to do that. Being the thoughtful man he is, Doug explained he and his family "just try to work around her disability," but in doing so, they've proved they'll do whatever it takes to keep their beloved dog happy and healthy. Daisy couldn't ask for better owners.
