Struggling Waitress Cuts Up Food For Elderly Customer And Is Rewarded In The Best Possible Way

At this point, it seems like the world is full of nothing but cruelty. Reading the news is bad enough to give anyone chest pains, and at every turn, there's violence, hatred, bigotry, and death. Kids are marching in the streets to beg politicians to stop letting them be murdered at school and millions of DACA Dreamers are being ripped from the only home they've ever known. Bad news is certainly not hard to come by.

But every now and then, something good shines through. Such is the case for this story. What started as a small, touching act of kindness by teenage waitress Evoni Williams ended in a payoff fitting of her heartwarming deed and depth of compassion.

While she was working at a waffle house in her hometown, Evoni noticed an elderly man having trouble enjoying his meal because he couldn't manage to cut up his food. The man, 78-year-old Adrien Charpentier, just couldn't enjoy his meal like he deserved to and that's why Evoni stepped in to help.

She was photographed quietly cutting up his meal so that he could eat. She didn't make a show of it and she had no idea she was being watched. She just acted out of the kindness of her heart. Another patron, Lara Wolf, captured the photo and wrote this on Facebook about the encounter:

I don't know her name but I heard this elderly man telling her that his hands don't work too good. He was also on oxygen and struggling to breathe. Without hesitation, she took his plate and began cutting up his ham. This may seem small but to him, I'm sure it was huge. I'm happy to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day when everything in this world seems so negative.

The story quickly went viral. News outlets covered it locally, and eventually, Texas Southern University got wind of Evoni's story. Evoni had actually taken the job at the waffle house to save up for college. Knowing that, the school had an awesome idea. Unbeknownst to the teen, they put together a $16,000 scholarship for her and presented it to her as a surprise while she was working one day! The city of LaMarque even dedicated a day to her! She's so amazing.

You can watch her tearful reaction in the video below. Congrats, Evoni! Keep on being a beacon of light in dark times.
