If you ask anyone who knows him, they'll tell you Esmond Allcock has lived a remarkable life. Born outside of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on January 26, 1910, he is now officially Canada's oldest living man at the age of 108.
"He is a husband to one, a father to six, a grandfather to 17, a great-grandfather to 36 and a great-great-grandfather to 12," said his great-granddaughter, Jenna Lehne.
"While most people's great-grandfathers are faded childhood memories, I've been lucky enough to have had him with me for the past 30 years," she added.
While Jenna was growing up, one of the stories Esmond loved to tell her was about when she was learning to walk. She would hold up her hands and make him parade her around the room. All she had to say was "Walk Walk," and off they'd go. As she got older, he would call her his little buddy.
When Jenna found out she was pregnant with her first son, Esmond called all of his children to let them know that she was increasing the population.
When she got pregnant with her second son, Jenna and her husband decided they wanted to name him after family. When Esmond mentioned to Jenna's grandmother that he was responsible for 71 descendants but none had been named after him, Jenna knew exactly who she needed to name her son after.
Baby Esmond was born on January 11, 2017, almost exactly 107 years after his great-great-grandfather.
January in Canada is pretty harsh, but once the snow melted, Jenna loaded up baby Esmond in the car so she could introduce her great-grandfather to his namesake.
When they first arrived, Esmond couldn't place Jenna, but he was so excited to meet little Esmond. He gently cradled him in his arms.
About halfway through the visit, he finally realized who Jenna was "“ the Walk Walk girl!
As he held baby Esmond, he gently kissed the baby's head.
"You don't know what this means to me. You don't know what this means to me," he repeated as he tenderly held his namesake.
The Canada winter has yet again kept this precious pair apart, but Esmond asks about little "Ez" all the time. As soon as the snow melts, Jenna plans to take her son back over to see his great-great-grandfather.
She knows the visits mean so much to Esmond, but they also mean a lot to her.
"I wish I could fully explain how much it meant to me," Jenna said. "I am blessed."
