Bringing a baby into the world is one of the most incredible and miraculous experiences. They start out tinier than a poppy seed inside their mother's womb and then grow for nine months until it is time for them to enter the world. The birth of a child is truly one of the most joyous things a person could ever experience.
But for some women, even thinking about babies is enough to break their hearts. While it is not talked about a whole lot, many women struggle with infertility and many others have had to suffer the heartbreak of miscarriages. There is nothing more devastating than getting hopeful and excited about a new baby, only to discover that they died before they ever got a chance to take a breath.
That's the heartbreak Minnesota mom Allyson Ponto, and her husband, Tony, had suffered for more than a decade. Four times Allyson discovered with joy that she was pregnant, and four times she was crushed when she realized she had miscarried.
Determined not to give up on their dream of having a baby, the couple went through five rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI), but were unsuccessful every time.
They finally turned to in vitro fertilization, but they were cautious about getting their hopes up. Even when Allyson took a pregnancy test and saw that it was positive, she was hesitant to get too excited, afraid her hopes would be crushed again.
The couple tentatively went in for an ultrasound, but Allyson was "totally prepared for a let down. Or for something to be wrong."
Little did she know that she was in for the shock of her life!
When the doctor began to move his wand across her stomach, he found one heartbeat...and then another...and then another...and then another!
Allyson was pregnant with quadruplets!
After four heartbreaking miscarriages, the Pontos were being blessed with four precious new lives.
The babies grew and grew inside Allyson's stomach, getting stronger and healthier by the day. On July 4, 2017, the four girls were delivered via c-section.
When Olivia Susan, Anna Louise, Morgan Price, and Carolyn Grace were born, they all weighed around two to three pounds. Doctors had to monitor them for a little while as they continued to grow, but soon they were ready to go home where an army of helpers was ready to help the Ponots care for their little ones.
Today the girls are continuing to grow and the Pontos are happily adjusting to their large family. We wish this sweet family all the best and are excited to watch these precious quadruplets continue to grow and thrive!
