When we really stop to think about it, amazing things happen to us each and every day. Unfortunately, most of us tend to focus on the negative and certainly, to do so is human nature.
When you consider all of the things that could’ve happened and some of the amazing things that take place on a daily basis, life truly is well worth living. Just the simple fact that we are able to wake up every morning and see the world around us is a precious gift.
Life is good on an individual basis but sometimes, something extraordinary takes place that really makes us stop and think about the world around us. You could call it a coincidence or you could call it whatever you like but when things come together perfectly, it often produces a type of beauty that is rarely seen.
That is what you are about to see in these pictures and it is amazing how a single moment in time can create beauty to the point where it affects thousands of people around the world.
This story starts in northeastern Spain in an area known as Costa Brava. Like many places in the world, the sky in the evening is often home to something that is rather extraordinary; thousands and thousands of starlings.
If you have never seen this phenomenon before, you really owe it to yourself to get out and see it for yourself. They come together in a cloud and they begin to shift shapes, following each other in unison. Although there are hundreds or perhaps even thousands of starlings involved, they twist and turn and create some rather amazing shapes that are constantly morphing.
Daniel Biber is a photographer from Germany and he loves to take pictures of birds. He was out on this particular day to take pictures of starlings as the mass was twisting and turning, creating new shapes.
On this particular day, it is thought that there may have been the predator in the area, such as a hawk or a falcon. As the starlings were responding to the threat and trying to defend themselves naturally, they twisted themselves into a giant, single bird. It was almost as if they were trying to say, we are bigger than you are!
The interesting thing about what Mr. Biber had done is the fact that he had no idea that he had taken such a phenomenal shot. These pictures, however, allowed him to win an international photo competition prize.
“Only when I checked the pictures on the computer later, I realised what formation the starlings had created,” he said. “I was so concentrated on taking pictures at the time that I hadn’t realised that the starlings had created a giant bird in the sky.”
This wasn’t the first time that he tried to take these pictures. In fact, he had been out many nights trying to capture something beautiful and always fell short of the mark.
Eventually, he went to this particular spot four days in a row to capture the pictures and he matched up the foreground and the backdrop perfectly. When you look down through the pictures, you will see why people love them so much.
