Joy Villa Defends Her Pro-Trump Grammy Dress With Controversial Tweet

The Grammys were not without their share of controversy. Kacey Musgraves won Album of the Year, which is a category country doesn't normally do well in, while rock music was pretty much ignored for hip hop and rap.

There was Cardi B who won for Best Rap Album which upset star Ariana Grande, who felt her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller should have won.

Then, like any award show, there was controversy over outfits. Bebe Rexha made headlines after she outed fashion designers who refused to dress her because she was a size 8 (she looked stunning in the dress she wore by the way), but most controversial of all was Joy Villa.

The singer wore a specially designed dress to promote the border wall proposed by President Donald Trump. It was complete with barbed wire, stylized "bricks" and giant lettering instructing America to "Build The Wall."

It was hard to miss.

The wall is, naturally, very controversial and hotly debated both in congress and online. Villa says that since the Grammys, she's been the target of vicious online attacks. She took to Twitter to hit back at her critics and defend her choice of wardrobe.

"I just want to give a warm shout-out to all the women attacking me with "feminist" in their bios. The anti-trump Latinos calling me the N word. And the Black Lives Matter activists telling me to chop off my afro before they violently do it for me," she wrote. "Bless your hearts."

Today's political world is super-charged with hateful rhetoric and vicious attacks against those who don't agree. It's hard to believe we've come so low so quickly. Whether or not you support the wall, it's clearly not right to attack a person for their political beliefs in such a personal manner.

The 2018 Grammys wasn't the first time she showed her political beliefs in her clothing. Last year's award show also had a controversial pro-Trump dress.

Villa has many supporters on Twitter, cheering on her display, and just as many detractors.

Although she's a singer, songwriter and actress, Villa's Twitter is filled with political posts and discussion. The outspoken talent isn't shying away from voicing her opinions.

The Grammy controversies are subsiding, but something tells me this isn't the last we'll hear from Joy Villa.
