Kenny Chesney Rescues Stranded Teens After Hurricane Irma

Residents of Florida, Texas and the Caribbean are trying to mend their lives after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma ravaged through their communities, destroying almost everything in their path.

Last week, country singer Kenny Chesney penned a heartfelt note and shared some photos revealing that his home as well as those of many people he knew in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands were destroyed. He vowed to help those affected by the catastrophe rebuild through his foundation, Love for Love City.

"I'm gonna do everything that I possibly can to try to relieve some stress from people that I've really grown to love over the years, who have meant so much to my life. This place, these islands, have meant so much to me," Chesney told People.

Mere days after announcing the launch of his new foundation, Chesney is once again making headlines for a selfless act that saved two teenage boys in the aftermath of the storm.

Two weeks ago, brothers Jah-Haile and Jahbioseh Bruce were stranded on the U.S. Virgin Islands after riding out Hurricane Irma with their grandfather.

"Five minutes later the roof just ripped off our head," Jah-Haile told CNN.

"That's the moment where I was terrified, because I felt like Irma was a spirit. I felt like I saw a hand grab the roof, squeeze it and throw it off into the wind. It was crazy," Jabioseh added.

Thankfully, the boys and their grandpa came out alive, but they lost almost all of their belongings. The trio were rescued and made their way to the island of St. Croix in hopes that they would be able to get some help to return to their mother's home in Philadelphia. This is where Chesney stepped in.

In a twist of fate, news about the stranded boys reached Chesney's ears, and he immediately knew he needed to help. He anonymously sent his private jet to fly the boys to safety and reunite them with their mom.

Chesney's act of kindness was done from the goodness of his own heart, not for press, but as a celebrity it is hard to keep grand gestures like this on the low.

The country star has also been using his private jet to supply the affected island residents with clean water and pet food.

"I don't even know what to say [other] than thank you," Jah-Haile said upon finding out that Chesney was behind their rescue.

Chesney will reportedly be using some of the profits from his upcoming releases as well as merchandise sales to continue aiding those displaced by the storms.
