As someone who loves to bake, a KitchenAid mixer made my Christmas and birthday lists every year. It took years, but I finally received one for my most recent birthday, and it's not an exaggeration when I say it's the best kitchen tool I've ever owned.

Not only is it powerful enough to handle large batches of batter and dough, the attachments make it easy to make pasta and ice cream, spiralize vegetables, grind meat, and so much more.

It's no wonder the coveted mixer has been rated as one of the best in the world for nearly 100 years.

That's right,  KitchenAid will be turning 100 in 2019! Although the huge milestone is months away, they're kick-starting celebrations a little early.

The company has released a very special version of their iconic stand mixer in a divine shade called Misty Blue. Those who are familiar with the brand's earliest stand mixers might note the similarities in the color of this new mixer and one of the first ones KitchenAid ever released.

While the retro nod is evident, KitchenAid did add some modern touches that set the special anniversary-edition mixer apart from all the rest.

Instead of the usual stainless steel or glass bowl, a number of the pastel-hued mixers are equipped with a ceramic hobnob bowl. The first 20 people to purchase the mixer will receive a special-edition white, ceramic, numbered hobnob bowl.

If you weren't quick enough to score one of the limited mixers, you can still get a non-numbered bowl or the white coated stainless steel bow.

The Misty Blue mixer also boasts a unique anniversary decal that reads "1919 - ONE HUNDRED YRS. - 2019." The KitchenAid logo as well as the power hub also looks different on the new mixer.

As expected, the 5-quart mixer does come with a hefty price tag of $500 (You can currently get it on sale for $399.99). It's definitely an investment, but if your wallet isn't ready for it yet, here are some cheaper alternatives to consider:

Cuisnart SM-50BC, $178

At the moment, Cuisinart's SM-50BC stand mixer is one of the main rivals of the KitchenAid stand mixer. Like its competition, the 5.5-quart tilt-head machine boasts 12 speeds and allows for optional attachments to be added. It is also available in a variety of colors, and comes with the whisk, dough hook, flat mixing paddle, and splash guard. The best part? It's available on Amazon and will only set you back $178.

KitchenAid Classic Plus Mixer, $299.99

It's smaller than the popular Artisan series and operates at a lower speed, but it is worth the price. The Classic Plus usually sells for $299.99, but it's currently on sale at Amazon for just $199.99!

Cheftronic Stand Mixer, $70

The 4.2-quart Cheftronic mixer is perfect for home bakers who are looking to make their time in the kitchen easier without breaking the bank. In addition to its powerful six speed control, the $70 mixer, which is currently available on Amazon, comes with four attachments as well as a two-year warranty.

The mixer is also available in a bigger size and different color, but you'll have to cough up $150 for the upgrade.
