Lance Armstrong Bloodied And Bruised After Serious Crash

Associated Press

Former Tour de France cyclist Lance Armstrong wound up in the hospital on Wednesday after a bloody bike crash.

Armstrong, if you don't remember, was at the center of a major doping scandal in 2012 when it was discovered that he had used performance-enhancing drugs for years. As a result, Armstrong was stripped of all of his championships from August 1998 onward, including seven Tour de France titles.

Armstrong was given a lifetime ban from all sports that follow the World Anti-Doping Code, and the United States Anti-Doping Agency called him the ringleader of "the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen."

But even though he can't professionally compete in cycling anymore, Armstrong still trains and stays in shape. However, the 46-year-old cycling icon had a rare accident while out for a ride, and it landed him in the hospital.

Well, sometimes you’re the hammer and sometimes you’re the nail! The Tom Blake trail (one of my faves) came up and tried to KO my ass today.

Took quite the blow to the noggin’ so swung by the Aspen Valley Hospital (great facility!) to get my head checked. For the 46 yrs prior to today I completely would have blown off getting checked. Not now.

Small world story - a few weeks back I posted a pic of @ghincapie, @mikekloser, and myself. Credit photo to “some dude at top of buttermilk”. Well, that ‘dude’ turned out to be @ajaxrider - the ER doc on duty today! Charlie, thanks for looking after me.

It seems like Armstrong crashed the bike on his own, not involving any other bikes or vehicles, as he mentions the trail "KO'd his ass."

Armstrong was checked out at the hospital and everything seemed to be in order. He was released shortly after he arrived, but it's a good thing he went.

We wish Lance a speedy recovery!
