Two-year-old Sophia was getting a special treat after successfully using the potty for a whole month. Her parents asked her what she wanted and of course she chose a new doll! What her parents weren't expecting was that their little girl would have to stand up to an adult to defend her choice.
Sophia went to the store with her mom Brandi who couldn't be more proud of her little girl after the interaction they had. Sophia picked out her new little toy and was so excited to bring her home when the cashier started asking her weird questions.
The Target cashier asked if Sophia was going to a birthday party. At first both Sophia and her mom were confused by the question so they remained quiet. The cashier continued the questions by asking if the doll was for a friend.
Brandi stepped in and said it was a prize for potty training, then the woman at the cash looked at Sophia and asked "Are you sure this is the doll you want, honey?"
Sophia happily answers, "Yes please!" The cashier kept going saying, "But she doesn't look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you."
Brandi was mad at this point, but before she could say anything Sophia shut her down. She said "Yes she does. She's a doctor like I'm a doctor. And I'm a pretty girl and she's a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?"
The cashier finally seemed to clue in and give up, replying with a simple, "Oh, that's nice," before letting them pay and leave.
Brandi is proud of her little girl and shared the story on Facebook where it went completely viral, getting shared over 450,000 times. She says "This experience just confirmed my belief that we aren't born with the idea that color matters. Skin comes in different colors just like hair and eyes and every shade is beautiful.
