Marine Reveals Baby's Gender In The Cutest Way While Deployed Overseas

Gender reveal parties are a way for everyone to share in the excitement of welcoming the new baby. Whether you're popping balloons or tossing confetti, it's a fun way to spread the news about the sex of the new baby.

Captain Gregory Veteto was three weeks into his deployment, when he found out his wife Shanelle, was pregnant with their second child.

"The pregnancy, in general, was a surprise. About three weeks into the deployment, my wife emailed me when we were on [the] ship to let me know she was pregnant," the Facebook post said.

She and her 16-month-old son, Samuel, were back home on Camp Pendleton in Southern California, when they found out that they were having a new addition to the family. They wanted to do something special to reveal the gender to the devoted father.

After brainstorming with a friend, her husband's career as a punter in college gave her some inspiration.

She decided to fill a football with colored powder and when her husband punted it, the football would explode with either pink or blue powder.

"I was a terrible punter," Gregory Veteto said. "She told me, 'don't screw it up.' I just didn't want to miss the ball."

"It was fantastic breaking open the football," he said. "The Marines were excited about it and I appreciated that."

Capt. Gregory Veteto reveals the gender of his baby to his extended family "” his Marines. "The pregnancy, in general, was a surprise. About three weeks into the deployment, my wife emailed me when we were on ship to let me know she was pregnant. That itself was a surprise and we were not expecting this but very thankful. I actually found out it was a girl about a month before kicking the football "“ that was exciting. When the football came we decided we wanted to officially announce it by kicking it and having the powder go everywhere. I will tell you even though I knew; kicking it and seeing the pictures and the videos it was really a joyful moment for me and my family. It just really warmed my heart to see a lot of smiles on the Marines' faces. A lot of the Marines didn't know I was having a girl, so it was a big surprise for them and to hear them get excited about it was really cool. I am glad I made the decision to do it at the company formation." "” Capt. Veteto

The commander and his wife did a similar gender reveal for their son, but instead of a football, it was a cake.

"Our mothers-in-law made a cake that was blue on the inside," he said.

Eagerly looking forward to the birth of Madeline Grace, he is excited to be able to share the gender reveal photos with her one day.

"Thinking now, it is a pretty cool gift for my daughter, that she will get to see her dad and all the men around him were already celebrating her life before her birth," he said.
