Mario Lopez "Comes Through" After Emergency Surgery

Instagram

Extra host Mario Lopez spent Independence Day in the emergency room after a sparring lesson went wrong.

Lopez posted a photo of himself on Instagram just day ago, explaining that he tore his Achilles tendon while sparring.

Lopez required surgery to fix the injury, but he would have to wait a couple of days before that could happen. He stayed in the hospital and tried to keep his spirits high, taking a video with some of the staff.

Courtney Lopez, Mario's wife, posted a sweet selfie of her and her husband before he went into surgery, saying "You got this babe. I love you more than you could ever imagine."

Even though the surgery is fairly routine, any time someone you love goes under the knife it's scary. Luckily, everything seemed to go according to plan, and Mario posted a picture of himself in a full cast after the surgery.

"I came through," the Saved By The Bell actor captioned his photo. He also included pictures of the adorable "get well soon" card his son Dominic made him.

Mario didn't say how long he'd be on the mend, but typically Achilles surgery recovery can take up to six months to regain full range of activity. In about six weeks, he should be able to put his full weight on his foot.

Until then, Mario is confined to a scooter and crutches.
