11 Uses For Mayonnaise That Will Make You Say "May-Oh My Gosh"

I know there are a lot of people in the world who think mayonnaise is gross, and frankly you don't need that kind of negativity in your life. Mayonnaise is nothing but a God-send condiment that can be used in more ways than you ever could have imagined.

I'm not just talking in the kitchen, either. As most of you know, mayo is the definitive choice over butter when making a grilled cheese, and can also make any dip a crowd-pleaser. But did you know there are ways you can use mayo around the house for non-food related tasks?

These are some of the lesser known uses for mayonnaise that'll leave you saying "may-oh my gosh!"

1. Mayo Manicure

For those of us that suffer from brittle and dry nails, it can be frustrating to spend money on treatments that really don't work well. Luckily, mayonnaise is a great moisturizer for your nails! Coat your nails in mayo and let them sit for a while. The condiment also helps repair damaged cuticles, so it's like a two-in-one deal!

2. Mayo Moisturizer

Keeping in the beauty realm, you can use mayonnaise as an exfoliating treatment and moisturizer! Use it the same way you would any mask, and reap the rewards!

You can also use mayo to moisturize dry heels, elbows, knees, or whatever else is bothering you. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse well.

3. Mayo Mender

Okay I'm going to have to stop with the mayo names, but this one is great for furniture! How many times have you had someone put a drink on your table WITHOUT using a coaster? I know, right? Rude. Those ring stains on wooden furniture can be erased using mayo! Apply a layer to the affected area and let it sit there for up to 48 hours (depending on how bad the stain is). Afterwards, wipe off the mayo and revel in the wonder that is a clean table!

5. Clean Tar and Sap

If you're the unlucky soul who gets stuck parking under a tree that produces a lot of sap, then I suggest you pay close attention to this one. Cover any tar or sap spots with mayonnaise and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Wipe it off with a clean cloth and you're good to go!

6. Remove Sticker Gunk

Have you ever bought a book or a movie and the price tag won't come off properly? You're left with a sticky situation, literally, and can't get the gunk of without ruining the packaging. If you notice that a sticker is going to be fussy, stop picking at it!

Using a small amount of mayonnaise on a soft cloth, gently rub the cloth on the sticker. It will loosen and you'll be able to peel if off without issue. Use your discretion, though. If you think using mayo on the item will damage it, then maybe try something else.

7. Clean Light Switches

I bet it's not something you think about often, eh? Your light switches are pretty filthy, with people constantly touching them regardless of where their hands have been. Using mayo on a wash cloth, you can clean away any dirt an grime thanks to the oils in the condiment. Make sure to wipe off any excess mayo.

8. Shine Silver

Food Hacks

Cleaning silver, whether it's jewelry, cutlery or anything else, can be tedious and expensive. It doesn't have to be, though! Give your silver belongings a good scrub with mayo and then rinse them off. You'll have a chemical free shine!

9. Relieve Sunburns

No, don't use mayo as sunscreen, but if you did manage to get yourself a sunburn, use mayo to sooth the pain. The cold will feel good on your skin, which the oil will provide much-needed moisture. You'll also get a natural anesthetic from the vinegar which will provide some relief as well.

10. Shine Houseplants

I didn't know that plants needed to be shined, and I don't really see the point. Of course, I'm just saying that because God blessed me with two left feet but no green thumbs. But if you are looking for a way to get some glimmer on your leaves, rub a little bit of mayonnaise on your plants using a paper towel. Wipe it away and enjoy the shine!

11. Shine Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is all the rage in appliances right now, but they're also extremely prone to fingerprints and smudges. Not many things can restore that stainless steel shine, but mayonnaise sure can! Placing a small dab of mayo on a soft cloth and rubbing it on stainless steel appliances will leave you with a shiny, print-less appearance!
