8 Things To Know About Meghan Markle's Reported Maid Of Honor

Huffington Post

When it was announced Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle were engaged, fans of the British monarchy were over the moon.

As their wedding day approaches, the public has been speculating the coveted details of the royal wedding, from whether Markle will deliver a wedding speech to what the flavor of the cake will be.

But, there's one particular question that has plagued everyone's mind since the announcement "“ who will be Markle's maid of honor?

According to the rumor mill, the leading candidate is Jessica Mulroney, 38, a close friend of Markle's and an integral part of her inner-circle. If you've never heard of Mulroney before, we'll get you caught up with these eight facts about the actress's potential maid of honor.

1. Mulroney is a fashion stylist and bridal consultant

Hailing from Canada, Mulroney is a Toronto-based PR and brand strategist for Kleinfeld at the Hudson's Bay, and moonlights as a fashion stylist to big names such as Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, an activist and the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

While she's a fashion advisor for all public events, Mulroney specializes in bridal wear, making it no surprise she's also Markle's secret wedding planner.

"She is Meghan's best friend and the person Meghan trusts with helping to plan every detail," a source told Harper Bazaar. "She's the one helping Meghan to make all the key decisions. They are on the phone daily discussing every element of the wedding, from the dress to the flowers to the canapés and the photography.

"Meghan is very dependent on Jessica and Jessica has been totally indispensable. She's helped Meghan and Harry with so much already," the source added.

2. She married into a famous Canadian family

Mulroney is married to television personality, Ben Mulroney, who is the oldest son of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.

The couple knew each other since they were teenagers, but only started dating several years later in 2007. They tied the knot the following year in a ceremony that lasted three days.

The couple have three adorable children together, seven-year-old identical twins, Brian Gerald and John, and four-year-old Isabel (nicknamed Ivy).

3. Markle and Mulroney have been best friends for years

The pair striked up a friendship all the way back in 2011, and have been close ever since. They met shortly after Markle won the role of Rachel Zane in the hit show Suits, and had to relocate to Toronto.

Before Markle deleted her Instagram account, she frequently posted pictures with Mulroney on outings together. For instance, in 2016, the two pals took a trip to the Amalfi Coast and shared snapshots of their vacation, even coining the hashtag "#MJxItaly."

She's also been seen on Mulroney's social media accounts, where they were shown enjoying a Blue Jays game and spending quality time with the PR Strategist's children.

"Meghan and Jessica have been close friends for years. Thick as thieves," ABC News royal contributor Omid Scobie shared. "They really have kind of gone through the Toronto social scene together."

4. They bonded over yoga

When the pair met seven years ago, it was their mutual love for yoga that cemented their friendship.

In an interview with Women's Health UK, Markle shared her love for the spiritual practice, which she has been doing since she was a young girl.

"There are so many benefits that come with the practice of yoga... increased flexibility and muscle strength, greater happiness, increased mental focus, a greater ability to relax, decreased anxiety and better sleep," the starlet said, adding that her mother is in fact a yoga instructor.

"That practice is in my blood."

Mulroney has also been vocal about her love for the sweating sessions by posting her yoga routine on social media, along with pictures of the two women attending fitness classes together.

5. Mulroney hosted secret dinner parties for Markle and Harry

When Harry first starting visiting Markle in Toronto, they were determined to stay out of the public eye for as long as possible. So, they took refuge at Mulroney's home, where she'd often host dinner parties, just for them.

"When Harry came to visit the family he brought a bag filled with gifts. He won the kids over in an instant. He was brilliant with them and I think what swung it for Meghan was how good Harry was with them," a source said. "I actually think that might have been the moment Meghan really fell for Harry. He got to know the Mulroneys quite well, and they liked Harry from the beginning."

It wasn't the only time the Mulroneys hosted royalty either. Ben said Harry's late mother, Princess Diana once stayed at his father's house when she was on an official tour to Canada.

"Harry found them immediately kind and welcoming people, and he loved hearing stories about his mother," the source added. "Jessica is one of the nicest, sweetest people you will ever meet, and Ben is really easy to get along with."

6. Her daughter will play a role in the upcoming nuptials

When Harry first began spending time at the Mulroney household, he was quickly charmed by the couple's young children.

"When Harry first started going to Toronto to visit Meghan, it was Ben and Jessica who had them over at their house for dinners because it wasn't easy for them to go out in public without the risk of getting spotted," a royal insider told E! News last year, adding that the prince has become particularly close with the couple's kids.

"Harry's become close with their children," a source to the couple said. "Ivy especially is a big fan. She, of course, has no idea that he's a prince though."

Markle on the other hand has been close to Mulroney's daughter since she was born, and was even filmed teaching the youngster how to tap dance.

Due to their tight-knit bond with Ivy, it's reported the youngster will join the ranks of Princess Charlotte and become one of the flower girls at the wedding.

7. She helped Markle pick out her wedding dress

Since Mulroney is helping Markle plan her wedding, it only makes sense she would help her best friend pick out her wedding gown.

In January, Mulroney flew to London to join Markle at Kensington Palace when the soon-to-be royal had first fitting with her wedding dress designer, and has been kept in the loop about the undisclosed bridal wear.

"The picking of the dress, whether it's together with your mother, sister, auntie, best friend or grandmother, is very much a part of any bride's journey," Mulroney said in a press statement for Kleinfeld. "It's lovely when I get to be part of that process and get to know the couple and their family."

8. Mulroney is the co-founder of The Shoebox Project

Along with working a full-time job and being a mother to three children, Mulroney has also found time in her hectic schedule to co-found The Shoebox Project, a charity that helps women living in homeless shelters.

The organization distributes a variety of necessary products to women across the U.S. and Canada, such as socks, sunscreen, shampoo, skincare products, chocolate, and gift cards who are either homeless or at-risk of being homelessness.

In the last seven years, The Shoe Box Project has delivered more than 91,000 packages to those in need, and has garnered the support of public figures, including Mulroney's best friend, Markle.

She was seen wearing a bracelet supporting the charity while watching Harry at a polo match in Ascot, England.
