Our microwaves get used almost every day, but how much do we really know about how they work? Sure, I can microwave a bag of popcorn every single day, but if you asked me how to stop it from beeping loudly when I was trying to make my midnight snacks, I would never be able to tell you how to do it.

Well, it turns out that there are ways to make all your microwave work better for you, and it's not that hard at all. Here are some of the best hacks for the microwave that will help make every day so much better.

1. Your microwave will help you peel garlic

If you microwave your garlic for 20 seconds before you try to peel it, the skin will slide right off without getting stuck.

2. Clean it easier without scrubbing

If you put a bowl of warm water with white vinegar mixed into it, and then turn your microwave on for three to four minutes, you will then be able to easily wipe down all of those splatter marks that have been crusted onto the side for weeks.

3. Make your own frothy milk for lattes at home

You just need to put your milk in a jar and shake it up. Use as much milk as you normally would in your coffee, and then screw on the lid. Shake it up for 30-60 seconds until you can see the milk has doubled in volume. Microwave for 30 seconds and then open it up. The foam will rise to the top so you can pour it right into your coffee or just spoon the foam on top.

4. Dry your own herbs

If you are growing a garden anyways, you may as well grow your own fresh herbs! But when you want to use dried herbs in a recipe, all you have to do is microwave them in a bowl for two to three minutes, and then you'll be able to grind them up and store them for longer periods of time.

5. Stops you from crying while cutting onions

There is nothing more annoying than those tears that start to build up in your eyes while you are chopping onions. To prevent this, you can first cut an onion in half, then place it in the microwave for 30 seconds before chopping it up. No more tears!

6. Revive day old bread or pastries

Buy a loaf of fresh bread is always great in theory, but when you don't eat it all in one day it sometimes feels as though it has been wasted. Instead of throwing it away, microwave the pieces you still want to eat for ten seconds and it should soften back up! This also works for donuts, cinnamon buns, and muffins.

7. How to make it stop beeping

The most important hack of all, one that so many people are missing out on, is that there is actually a mute button to stop those loud beeps! Who else has been trying to warm up a midnight snack and ended up waking up half of the house because the microwave wouldn't stop beeping? I know I've done it, and my husband has done it, countless times.

Well, there is actually a way to make it stop. While every microwave is different, a lot of them will let you mute the beeps by pressing and holding the "0" button on the microwave. Some microwaves the mute function will be on the number "1" or "2," but it's at least a relief to know it exists! Check you manual to figure out for sure which button it is.
