McDonald's Has Finally Started Selling Muffin Tops, And It's About Time

Everyone knows that the top of the muffin is the best part. There really is no argument there. The bottoms aren't gross or anything, but when you want a muffin, you know it's the top that is the best part.

Muffin tops are just better, and now McDonald's has finally started giving us what we really want. Just like Elaine did in Seinfeld in, they are going to sell just the muffin tops as their own separate thing.

"It's crunchy; it's explosive; it's where the muffin breaks free of the pan and sort of does its own thing. ... That's a million-dollar idea right there," Elaine said in the episode.

Do you guys remember that episode? Elaine talked all about her love of muffin tops, only to have her million dollar idea stolen and turned into a store. Luckily she got cut in for 30% and their business was a huge success.

McDonald's hopes to recreate that success with their new McCafe Muffin Toppers.

They've got Blueberry, Lemon Poppy Seed, and Double Chocolate, and they are hoping it'll help bring in some new business.

Apparently their breakfast menu hasn't been bringing in the customers like they thought, and they hope "ditching the stump" as Elaine would say, will increase sales.

"We took our eye off the ball on breakfast," McDonald's Chief Financial Officer Kevin Ozan said. "With everything else going on, we just lost a little focus on that breakfast day part."

While McDonald's breakfast accounts for 25% of their business, the numbers have been dwindling as other companies have started selling all day breakfast as well. While it was a big deal in 2015 to be able to get your Egg McMuffin at anytime of the day, now there are so many options to chose from.

"It had been a while, I think, before we had really focused in on talking to customers about that morning day part," Vice President of menu innovation Linda VanGosen said. Hopefully this change can make customers get excited to eat breakfast again!
