Heroic Pit Bull Carries 7-Month-Old Baby Out Of Fire

It turns out the phrase "man's best friend," doesn't apply to only male adults.

An eight-month-old pit bull named Sasha came to her family's rescue when a raging fire broke out in their California home.

On June 3, the heroic pit bull alerted the sleeping family that they were in danger by barking up a storm. When Nana Chaichanhda, 30, opened the door, she saw her dog acting frantic.

"I open it and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy, and I was like, "˜okay, this is weird. This is not like her,'" she told KCRA.

After Sasha gave her warning, she immediately went to rescue Chaichanhda's seven-month-old daughter, Masailah, by carrying her out of her bedroom.

"She has my baby by the diaper just dragging her off the bed "” trying to get her to safety," Chaichanhda explained. "I was like, 'Oh my gosh, what are you doing?'"

Chaichanhda added that she wasn't surprised Sasha had rushed to her daughter's aid, as they've shared a close bond since the day they met.

"I owe her everything. If it wasn't for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn," she told Fox 40.

Following the blaze, Chaichanhda - who lived with her cousin and three children - had to relocate her family as the apartment became unlivable. Unfortunately, Sasha is currently separated from her family, and had to move in with Chaichanhda's aunt.

"She misses the kids and sleeping in their beds. I take the kids over there so Sasha doesn't cry all day," Chaichanhda said.

"It's hard to answer the questions, 'Where are we going to live?' and 'Are we going to be homeless?" when I'm trying to figure that out as well, so right now we're leaning on each other," she added.

Her sister, Christine White, has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for their growing expenses.
