President Trump Makes A Bold Statement For Fallen Heroes

The White House will be boasting a new hue on Monday night to honor some of our nation's heroes.

President Donald Trump and the First Lady, Melania Trump have announced that they will be lighting up the White House blue to memorialize law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

"In humble appreciation of our hard-working law enforcement officers, Melania and I will light the White House in blue on May 15," Trump announced in a statement released prior to delivering a speech at Capitol Hill.

Trump has often advocated for the protection of police officers and he has certainly kept his promise of being a "law and order candidate" by taking action including declaring May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day.

"Police officers are the thin blue line whose sacrifices protect and serve us every day, and we pledge to support them as they risk their lives to safeguard ours," read the statement.

"America stands strong with our brave men and women in blue," Trump said during his speech on Peace Officers Memorial Day. "Every drop of blood spilled from our heroes in blue is a wound inflicted upon the whole country."

The President also requested that all flags fly at half staff in memory of the fallen men and women.

According to data from the White House, 118 officers were killed in the line of duty last year and Trump is working with police department officials to ensure that justice is served for their deaths.

This is not the first time that the White House is being lit up to raise awareness for a cause. In April, Trump also lit his home in blue for World Autism Awareness Day.
