Congratulations are in order - not all of us are so lucky as to live to the ripe old age of 98! Prince Philip AKA the Duke of Edinburgh or Queen Elizabeth's husband celebrated his 98th trip around the sun on June 10, 2019.

Just in case you didn't watch The Crown, Prince Philip was born in Greece, but his family was exiled from the country when he was an infant. After being educated in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, he joined the British Royal Navy at age 18. From there, he began corresponding with the 13-year-old Princess Elizabeth, whom he had first met in 1934. During the Second World War he served with distinction in the Mediterranean and Pacific Fleets.

After the war, Philip was granted permission by George VI to marry Elizabeth. Before the official announcement of their engagement in July 1947, he abandoned his Greek and Danish royal titles and became a naturalised British subject, adopting the surname Mountbatten from his maternal grandparents. Newest member of the royal family, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, has a last name that's a nod to both his grandparents.

With most of the royal family on social media now, their various accounts were flooded with tributes and well wishes for the Queen's husband of 71 years on Monday.

The royal family's official Twitter account posted a photo of the prince, along with the caption, "The Duke of Edinburgh was born on this day in 1921. In this picture His Royal Highness was photographed in 1953, 66 years ago. #HappyBirthdayHRH":

Clarence House, which is the official Instagram account of Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also went with a nostalgic photo. It's a  young Prince Charles holding hands with his father after following Philips return home from a trip to Malta in 1951.

This is Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s Instagram. They shared a number of photos, starting with a sunny shot of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. They also included joyous moments Philip shared with both his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, as well as a shot of from the 2016 Trooping the Colour festivities.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also took part in the online celebrations, sharing a photo of Philip with Harry. The two are said to have a close friendship.

Also included in the post from The Duke and Duchess of Sussex is a shot of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip on the dance floor. The royal pair are all smiles in the black and white image.

“Wishing His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Sir, Grandpa a very Happy 98th Birthday!” they wrote, adding a birthday cake emoji.

Prince Philip's Heartbreaking Confession

The Duke of Edinburgh has spoken honestly about his increasing age following his 98th birthday yesterday. In an interview with Giles Brandreth for the The Daily Telegraph following the Queen Mother's centenary back in 2000, Philip made some revealing comments about aging.

Sadly, Philip said that he had “no desire whatsoever” to live to 100. Then jokingly he added: “I can’t imagine anything worse. “Bits of me are falling off already.”

Considering his age, I think Prince Philip is still doing very well. For goodness sake, he is only two years into his retirement, and he has been one of the most active members of the Royal Family over the last few years.
