Prison Break fans rejoice, because Fox has officially announced its hit series will return for a sixth season.

The network confirmed fans's suspicions on Jan. 4, after Dominic Purcell (who plays Lincoln Burrows) alluded to the revival through a post on Instagram.

While there's no date set for the drama series will be back on the small screen, Fox Entertainment chief Michael Thorn appeared to be thrilled when speaking about the forthcoming season.

"We are developing a new iteration of Prison Break,"  Thorn said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

"We just heard the pitch a couple of weeks ago, an approach to the next chapter," Thorn said. "But we don't even have an outline for the pilot yet. I fully expect both brothers will be involved in the series, assuming that they're all available."

"There's a lot to figure out when you're bringing back the cast of a show where they all have busy careers," he added.

However, since the fifth season appeared to tie up all of the series's loose ends, fans are curious where the plot line could go from there.

In November, Wentworth Miller (who plays Michael Scofield) shared on Instagram his own zany pitch for the sixth season plot line. The humorous script includes Michael and Lincoln being forced to revisit all of their former breakout locations.

While most of the cast and crew are excited to be going back to their old stomping ground, not everyone holds the same enthusiasm. This past May, creator Paul Scheuring told EW he would be hesitant to dive into another season without a good script.

"To do it again, I think we'd have to find an equally strong or even stronger narrative and I think that's very hard with Prison Break," Scheuring said.

"Never say never, but we're just not going to do it just to do it, it has to be great. I know that the actors are very keen on doing it, but at this very moment, I don't have an idea what it would be," he continued. "It's possible it could come from other sources, but right now there's nothing in the old noggin."
