Olympic Gymnast Shawn Johnson Reveals Devastating Miscarriage Just Hours After Confirming Pregnancy

Shawn Johnson has experienced her fair share of trials and tribulations as a former U.S. gymnast.

The 25-year-old has overcome plenty of obstacles, including an eating disorder and severe injuries that nearly ended her career. However, she bounced back every time and went on win several medals at the 2008 Olympic Games, including one gold and three silver.

The athlete has always been very open about her struggles, and has often talked about them during interviews, in her books and on social media.

This week, Johnson shared another update about her life, and it is the most heartbreaking yet.

Johnson and her husband, former NFL player Andrew East, have always given their fans a glimpse into their lives, but this time they got very personal and emotional.

The ex-Olympian and her husband posted a video on YouTube in which they revealed that Johnson recently suffered a miscarriage.

Johnson and East wrote in an accompanying Instagram post that the video addressing their loss "is by far the hardest video they've ever posted," but felt that "it was a story that needed to be shared as so many struggle with the same."

Titled "pregnancy + heartbreak," the video documented the couple's highs and lows, from when they found out they were expecting to the moment the doctor broke the devastating news to them.

"The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest, and saddest times of my life," Johnson captioned the video. "My husband Andrew and I found out that we were unexpectedly pregnant, only to find out hours later some tragic news. I have been crying more than I ever have, but am still optimistic for what is next."

The couple revealed that they decided to visit the doctor's office after Johnson was experiencing some unexpected bleeding and stomach pains, but unfortunately it was confirmed to be a miscarriage.

"So, it's been a roller coaster of a few days," Johnson East explained in the video. "We just got back from the doctor and I'm no longer pregnant. Somehow, I lost the pregnancy already. It sucks. It's definitely no fun, guys ... and having a doctor confirm that we miscarried doesn't feel good."

The couple later took to Facebook Live to chat with their fans and answer questions.

"We believe God's got a bigger plan for us," Johnson said. "All we can do is be positive otherwise we just sink into a hole."
