Mom Reports Her Young Son Missing, But He Was Secretly Making Money For Something Special

The spirit of Christmas seems to be most alive in the hearts and souls of young children around the world.

Children are taught some of the most important values during the holiday season, such as to celebrate love, bond as a family, think of others before thinking of yourself, being grateful, and spreading Christmas joy.

What's beautiful is that they take these values to heart and work hard to spread joy in their community.

One boy went through great lengths to make sure his family would have a wonderful Christmas, but his plan didn't go accordingly.

An Oklahoma mother frantically reported her 13-year-old son missing after he didn't come home at the time he was supposed to.

Sophia Reed asked her daughter, Deneisha, if she had any idea where her brother might be, but she bit her tongue, knowing well that if she told her mother the truth, Christmastime could be ruined for her whole family.

The story of the "missing" boy will warm you heart.

Diauris and his mother and sister recently moved to their new apartment, so they didn't have enough money for Christmas shopping.

"What little Christmas money we had, you know, to pay my security deposit for here," Sophia told KFOR.

Sophia's children didn't want to let that reason ruin their Christmas, so they devised a plan.

While Diauris collected cans to trade them in for money, his mother was calling the police to report him missing.

Diauris's older sister knew her brother was trying to make money to buy their mother something special for the holiday, so she kept her mouth shut.

"I was very afraid he was going to get in trouble," she said. "I just didn't want to say anything because it would blow the whole thing."

When Diauris returned home, he saw the cops there, and had no other choice but to reveal what he'd been up to.

"Most of the time when I see the police, it's like, bad stuff," he said. "I just wanted to do something for my mama."

But Diauris was nowhere close to getting in trouble, in fact officers were so warmed by Diauris's Christmas spirit that they showed up to the family's home to bring Christmas presents. The cops also raised $800 for the mom and her children!

"There was so many knocks on my door, everybody just was knocking ... And every time I opened my door, it was the police," Sophia recalled.

Sophia hopes to be able to offer the same generosity to someone next year.

Happy holidays!
