When Lisa Williams looked through the window she noticed something on the airport tarmac that brought tears to her eyes.
She lifted her cellphone up to the glass and pressed record, then silently watched with rest of the passengers as a flag-draped casket was lowered from their plane.
Then, she caught something from the corner of her eye and realized what was about to happen.
"It was heartbreaking," Lisa told WNCT . "There was a woman standing behind me in the aisle and she said, "˜oh, another angel is coming home'."
The passengers on the plane witnessed a heartbreaking reunion between a fallen soldier and his widow.
Tara approaches the coffin of her deceased husband, Warrant Officer Shawn David Thomas of the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group. The Army Times reports that he was serving in central Africa when he died from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
Shawn leaves behind Tara and their four young children. His obituary reads: "Under his big beard, tattoos and giant muscles there was a small town Oklahoma boy that was grounded by his faith, strong values, and family."
Tara thanked Lisa for posting the footage of the reunion to Facebook. It has been viewed more than 8 million times.
"There are many men and women that come home in a casket and they've made the ultimate sacrifice for us, this goes on every day" Tara said.
It was an honor to fly home with this PATRIOT! God bless his wife and family. There was not a dry eye around me.
