Toilet Paper May Be The Cause Of Some Embarrassing Health Problems

Many countries around the world including Japan, Italy and Greece use bidets as a way for people to keep themselves clean after going to the bathroom.

The United States on the other hand, has relied on dry toilet paper as the norm to keep their rears clean; a strategy that is proving not to be nearly as effective.

Since dry toilet paper is ineffective at removing feces, many resort to excessive wiping, which can come with a flurry of other health problems.

Doctors say that excessive wiping could cause health problems like anal fissures and urinary tract infections.

An anal fissure is a tear in the lining of your rectum and can cause bleeding or pain when you poop. Most fissures heal after eight to 12 weeks, but wiping can really irritate the area.

Hemorrhoids on the other hand can be more serious and difficult to treat.

While it may sound strange, several celebrities have come forward vouching for baby wipes instead of tissue in the bathroom. Will Smith, Terrence Howard and Will.i.am are among them.

"I'm the type of person that it's important for me to share. When I experience something that's special and incredible, I like to share it with people. Anyone who's using dry toilet paper, you're really not doing yourself the true service," Smith said in an interview with BBC.

He's not the only one that has strong feelings on the issue.

A bidet is a popular choice with 90 percent of households in Italy, Spain and Greece having the device installed in their bathrooms. This device squirts water into the area to make using toilet paper more effective. They also help to decrease the possibility of urinary tract infections. But you won't easily find one of these devices in bathrooms across America.

"I find it rather baffling that millions of people are walking around with dirty anuses while thinking they are clean," author Rose George said. "Toilet paper moves sh*t, but it doesn't remove it."

Will.i.am said in a past interview that baby wipes are the best way to clean yourself when you don't have a bidet as an option.

"Here's proof on why people should have baby wipes. Get some chocolate, wipe it on a wooden floor, and then try to get it up with some dry towels. You're going to get chocolate in the cracks. That's why you gotta get them baby wipes," will.i.am said.

Now that paints a picture for sure!

Terrance Howard even goes so far to question women who only use toilet paper to clean themselves.

"If they're using dry paper, they aren't washing all of themselves. It's just unclean. So if I go in a woman's house and see the toilet paper there, I'll explain this," Howard said.

What do you think? Will this change the way you wipe?
