Sleeping with your socks on is a really polarizing topic. Some people think it's great, others think it's weird, and some think "who cares? It's just socks." Everyone has their own opinion, and that's their right, but after finding out how wearing socks to bed can improve your sex life, I have a feeling that there are some people who will be changing their minds.

In a study conducted through the University of Groningen, they asked 13 couples between the ages of 19 to 49 have their head scanned while their partner stimulated them. In this environment, 50% of couples were able to achieve an orgasm. However, when they were given socks to wear, this number jumped to 80% of the couples. So why do the socks matter? According to the study, turning off the 'fear' and 'anxiety' parts of the brain are key for women to achieve orgasm, and having warm feet can help alleviate these feelings.

While a better sex life might be the best result of wearing socks to bed, that doesn't mean it's the only one. Here are some other benefits to sleeping with your socks on.

1. You'll fall asleep quicker.

Some of us, myself included, love sleeping in a cool room. I need the fan on, windows open, whatever it takes to make myself feel like it's time to bundle up in blankets. Even though this may be the more comfortable way to sleep, it's actually shown that being warmer can help you fall asleep faster.

According to an article in Nature, humans need to be warmer when falling asleep. That's why things like warm baths can be beneficial for a good night's rest. The article explores the idea that our hands and feet need to be kept warm in order to promote rapid onset sleep. Because the blood vessels in these extremities dilate when warm, it triggers your brain that it's time to go to sleep.

2. You can prevent cracked heels.

The colder weather generally means dry skin, which then leads to cracked heels. However, sleeping with socks might help prevent this. Before you go to bed, moisturize your feet with a good lotion and then put on some soft socks. Sleep with these socks on all night, and you'll be reducing your chance of dry, cracked heels. It's important to note, though, that you can't use the same socks you've been wearing all day. This could increase your chance of bacterial and fungal infections.

3. You can prevent Raynaud's attacks.

Raynaud's disease is when your blood vessels in your hands and feet react abnormally to the cold and constrict, causing your extremities to go white. Sleeping with socks on will keep your feet warm all night and allow the blood to continue circulating without issues. An estimated 28 million people in the United States suffer from Raynaud's.

Sleeping with your socks on may be weird to some, but those who do it know that it's the way to go.
