5. It may protect against Alzheimer's.
According to Coffee & Health, several studies have shown that heavy coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing Alzheimer's, a common cause of dementia. It revealed that the higher coffee intake may lead to less chances of getting Alzheimer's disease, according to these studies.
6. It could protect you against Parkinson's disease.
While increased coffee consumption can lead to a smaller risk of developing Parkinson's disease, studies have found that it was only accurate with men and menopausal women. This is due to the fact that caffeine and estrogen requires the same enzymes, and estrogen tends to take these enzymes away from caffeine preventing it from having a strong effect.
7. It may decrease depression in women.
According to a Harvard School of Public Health study, a significant caffeine intake (more than 4 cups per day), could reduce the risk of depression in women by 20%. Studies have been done on men, but the results weren't as conclusive.
8. It may decrease the risk of certain types of cancer.
At least 2 cups a day of coffee can decrease your odds of getting liver cancer by over 40%. Studies have also indicated that it could lower your odds of getting prostate and breast cancer in non-smokers. Smoking may actually reverse the effects of coffee on potential cancers.
