It's probably happened to you before: just moments before your guests arrive, you're rummaging around in your kitchen searching desperately for the cork screw.
As the moments tick away, you realize that there's no way you'll be able to find it before everyone arrives. What do you do? Well, according to this hack, take off your shoe. The creative people at eHow show us just how simple it really is to open a bottle of wine with nothing more than your shoe (and a bit of science).
- Put the wine bottle inside against the heal
- Tap it forcefully against the wall a few times until the cork comes out just enough.
- Grip the top of the cork with pliers and wriggle it out the rest of the way.
The buildup of pressure from the gases inside the wine force the cork to emerge just enough for you to get a good grip on the tip. One good piece of advice: make sure your shoe has a thick heel and try to maintain the same force every time you hit the wall.
Voila! Dinner is served!
