Part of being a reality star is sharing your personal life with millions of strangers. After watching hours of their favorite TV shows, viewers can feel personally attached to the celebrities on their screens.

But when fans overstep a celebrity's boundaries in public, it can be seriously upsetting for everyone involved.

This season's star of The Bachelor, former football player Colton Underwood, spoke out after leaving a fan event early following an upsetting incident.

Underwood, 27, wrote on Instagram that he had been "grabbed and touched inappropriately" while posing with fans at a charity event on Wednesday.

He was in a San Diego nightclub that evening for an event with his Legacy Foundation for cystic fibrosis patients when the incident took place.

"I'm sorry if you didn't get a picture at the event last night," Underwood wrote in his Instagram Story, "but at one point during the event I was grabbed and touched inappropriately while people were throwing cameras in my face."

I am the type of person who would have stood in line for hours to make sure anyone who supported the event got a picture, but once that happened I had to do what was best for me as a human being.

I didn't sign up to be a piece of meat or a zoo animal. I hope we run into each other at another event or on the street and I can take the time to say hello.

Thank you again for coming to support Legacy and the fight against [cystic fibrosis].

The story comes after one of the contestants on Underwood's season, Caelynn, spoke openly about a sexual assault she suffered in college.

"My life was flipped upside down," Caelynn said to people about the attack. "And even though I've moved on, it is something I will struggle with forever."
