Mary Jo Buttafuoco Reveals Her True Feelings Towards Amy Fisher

It's been twenty-five years since Mary Jo Buttafuoco was shot in the face by her husband's 17-year-old mistress, Amy "The Long Island Lolita" Fisher, on the porch of her home in Massapequa, New York.

Miraculously, Buttafuoco survived the attack, and a few months later, Fisher pleaded guilty to first degree assault, a felony which put her behind bars for seven years.

The media frenzy surrounding the women helped turn them into household names. Their story even inspired three movies: Lethal Lolita (Amy Fisher: My Story), Casualties of Love: The Long Island Lolita Story starring Alyssa Milano and The Amy Fisher Story starring Drew Barrymore.

Upon her release in 1999, Fisher apologized to Buttafuoco in court and took full responsibility for what transpired that fateful day in May, 1992.

"What happened to you, it wasn't your husband's fault ... it was my fault, and I'm sorry," Fisher told Buttafuoco.

But no amount of apologies, fame or money could make up for what Buttafuoco went through. The gunshot left her face partially paralyzed, and rendered her deaf in one ear. It wasn't until recently that doctors were able to repair her facial paralysis.

"It's the first time in 25 years that when I smile, I can see the side of my teeth," Buttafuoco told Inside Edition.

Now, several weeks after Buttafuco's interview with Inside Edition, she has once again opened up. Buttafuoco appeared on a recent episode of Dr. Oz and she didn't hold back on her feelings towards Fisher.

Both Buttofuoco and Fisher have tried to move on since their confrontation and have largely remained out of the spotlight, except for a few TV appearances.

Buttafuoco re-married in 2010 and published her first book, Getting It Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know, in which she wrote about her experience and dealing with her husband, Joey.

Fisher also got married and has children of her own. After a few years of silence and turning down interviews, she finally commented on how she feels about Mary Jo and the way the public has been treating her.

In 2008, she said, "Mary Jo is a nonentity. People are angry at me because I'm a millionaire. But guess what? So is Mary Jo! She made more millions off of what I did than what I made."

It took nine years, but Buttafuoco is now also expressing how she truly feels about Fisher.

"You know, it's been 25 years. She's in her 40s now," Buttafuoco told Dr. Oz. "She hasn't made good choices, that's her decision. I wish she hadn't. I forgave her. I forgave her more for me, because again, like I said, when you got this anger and this bitterness you have to say, "˜You know what, I can't keep you in my head anymore.' "

The 62-year-old said that these days she rarely thinks about Fisher.

"I don't have a lot of thoughts about her other than kind of a waste "” she's kind of a waste," Buttafuoco added.

She then talked about getting back her smile after undergoing the life-changing surgery to repair the damage the bullet lodged in her neck had caused.

"When I got out of surgery and I smiled and I went, "˜I see my teeth,' it's the silliest thing yet it was the greatest thing," she said. Adding, "And it has given me such more confidence. My son got married a couple years ago and he had a photo booth. I didn't get in it. I would not do that. Now the first thing I do is selfie "” selfie, you know, like, I mean it's like yay!"

With her newfound confidence, Buttafuoco also opened up about her tumultuous life in Reelz Channel's series, Scandal Made Me Famous, which aired this past September.

It will probably just be a matter of time before Fisher fires back at these not so stellar comments Buttafuoco made about her.
