Dean McDermott Fires Back After His Kids Are Body Shamed

Instagram - Tori Spelling

When celebrities put themselves in the public eye, they're basically opening their lives up to public criticism. They know what they're getting into when they sign up for this career, and especially in the world of social media, it can be a wildfire of comments and criticisms from so-called "fans."

But the people who don't sign up for these attacks are the children of celebrities. They're young, impressionable, and just trying to live as normal as they can. Unfortunately, some people don't know the saying "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all," and they think it's okay to attack the appearance of young kids.

Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling learned the hard way that people can be vicious, after a picture of their kids on Instagram was bombarded with nasty comments about their appearance. Commenters criticized the kids' weight, clothing, and overall appearance, and McDermott was having none of it.

The Chopped Canada host left a furious message on his Instagram page, wondering how people could be so cruel towards young kids.

I am absolutely horrified and disgusted by the comments being left about my children. Body shaming and bullying my children??!! What is wrong with you people??!!

As far as saying my children are overweight, well that's just mean and uncalled for. They're going through different growth phases, and even if our children are on the bigger side. Who cares. They're happy and healthy and I'm sorry they don't look like skinny supermodels. People come in all shapes and sizes. So who are you to judge.

So I apologize we didn't get the iron and steamer out to make them perfect for you. They're kids. They're messy and dirty. That's what they do.

And what's wrong with shopping at Target??!! Over half of America shops there. The way they grow out of clothing so quickly is astounding. Are we supposed to shop at Gucci?? These are kids folks. Messy stinky little bundles of fun, laughter and love.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves for passing such horrible judgement on innocent beautiful children. Shame on you all!!!! Thank you to all the people who came to our defense. You're all kind compassionate souls. Down with the haters!! Up with love!!

This isn't the first time the Spelling-McDermott kids have been the target of cyber-bullying, either. A similar barrage of comments was left on another photo of the children, once again attacking their weight and clothing. That time, it was Spelling who came to their defense.

I am a proud mama bear and I enjoy sharing our family journey with my family, friends, fans and online supportive and loyal community.

For all the individuals on here that felt the need to #momshame and #kidshame me and my children I say "˜Shame on you!' I was raised to believe that if you can't say anything nice about someone then don't say anything at all.

Lift others up and you in turn lift yourself up #endcyberbullying.

Both Spelling and McDermott have had issues with their weight in the past, but they currently seem happy and healthy. McDermott recently posted a picture on his 52nd birthday about being in shape and spending more time taking care of his body.

It's nice to see that the parents are sticking up for their young kids, but it's disheartening to know that people can be so judgemental and cruel towards children.

What do you think of McDermott's response to the haters?
