Snack Attack: Amazing Snacks That Look Like Other Foods

There's something so pleasing about food that reminds us of something else. It's fun and unexpected. These simple recipes make awesomely pleasing snacks and they're cute to boot too.

Vegetable hummus garden

Fresh veggies straight from the garden!

Put a twist on the traditional vegetables and dip by creating a miniature garden out of your favorite crudites. This makes for a fun arrangement at family gatherings and summer BBQ's. Finding vegetables with stems and greenery lends a rustic touch to make your tiny garden look realistic. Try adding an a small rake or a white picket fence!

Ingredients

  • Broccoli
  • Carrots with stems
  • Green beans
  • Cucumber
  • Sweet mini peppers
  • Button Mushrooms
  • 2 cups (or more) hummus
  • Pumpernickel bread

Instructions

Wash and prepare your vegetables. Peel your carrots but leave the stems attached. Cut the stems down leaving an inch or two at the top. Spread hummus about an inch and a half deep into a serving dish. You may need to cut down the height of your veggies to make sure that they stand up straight in the garden. Put 2-3 slices of pumpernickel bread into a food processor and blend to make crumbs. Shake the breadcrumbs across the hummus and arrange the vegetables how you like. Serve your hummus garden with the additional pumpernickel bread.

Tip: If you want your dirt to appear darker, toast your bread crumbs in the over.

Strawberry Carrots

We love these treats come Spring or Summer. They make a fun display during Easter too.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup of orange candy melts (or white chocolate with gel food coloring)
  • 10 Fudge-o cookies
  • Pint of strawberries with the tops on

Instructions

Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. Melt the candy melts in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove and stir. Melt for another 30 seconds. Dip clean strawberries in the melts and place them on the baking sheet to cool. Reheat the candy melts and add them to a piping bag. Drizzle across the berries and set aside to cool.

Place the cookies in a Ziplock bag and crush them with a rolling pin. Arrange the cookie crumbs on your serving dish to look like dirt. and lay the berries on top.

Eggs N' Toast

Sweet and salty for the win!

Ingredients

  • Waffle pretzels
  • White chocolate or white candy melts
  • Mini yellow M&Ms

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Lay out your pretzels on a baking sheet and top them with one candy melt. Place them in the oven for 5-7 minutes until the melts are just soft. Remove from the oven and top with an M&M. Cool and serve!

Apple Oreo Truffles

Apples that taste like Oreo. Ironic? Yes. Delicious? Also yes.

Ingredients

  • 15 oreos
  • 2 tablespoons of cream cheese  
  • 1 cup of red candy melts  
  • Green M&Ms
  • Pretzel sticks

Instructions

Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. Take a few pretzel sticks and break them into small sections for apple stems. Blend Oreos and cream cheese in a food processor. Roll into balls a little smaller than an inch in diameter, place them on the baking sheet and chill. Melt red candy melts in the microwave. Use a toothpick to dip the truffle balls in the melts and place it back on the cookie sheet. Immediately press on a pretzel bit for the stem and add a green M&M for a leaf. Let your truffles cool and serve for a sweet treat.
