Every married couple has experienced ups and downs in their relationship, but most of us don't share them on a talk show.
That's a luxury that major stars like actor Will Smith and actress Jada Pinkett Smith can't afford.
With so much public interest in their relationship, and their family life, they're expected to open up about the best - and worst - parts of their lives in excruciating detail.
And it seems on an emotional upcoming episode of Pinkett Smith's Red Table Talk, that's exactly what the couple will do.
"That was the worst I've felt in our marriage. I was failing miserably."
When Red Table Talk premiered earlier this year, its honest and personal style quickly won over viewers.
The webseries is broadcast on Facebook Watch, and features three generations of women from the same family: Jada Pinkett Smith, her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones, and her daughter, singer Willow Smith.
The trio talked about plenty of hot topics in the first season, and it was very common for guests to get emotional during their interviews.
So Smith had to be prepared for strong emotions when he joined his family at the red table for an upcoming episode.
In a teaser, the actor seems to get emotional while discussing a previously untold crisis in his marriage to Pinkett Smith.
"There was a period of time when mommy woke up and cried for 45 days straight," Smith told his daughter. "It was every morning."
"You missed some days," Pinkett Smith joked.
"That was the worst I've felt in our marriage," the actor admitted. "I was failing miserably."
"We don't even say we're married anymore."
We'll have to wait until Red Table Talks returns later this month to learn what threatened to break apart the couple, but Smith can be seen crying in a trailer for the new season.
In a past episode, Pinkett Smith hinted that she was in "constant conflict" with her husband after their son, Jaden, was cast in The Karate Kid.
Despite the strong emotions on display, the Smiths have been together for more than two decades, and are usually seen as a fine example of lasting Hollywood romance.
In August, Pinkett Smith shared a family photo on Instagram, and discussed how the couple keep their union so strong:
"I've been watching a lot marriages dissolve around me," she wrote. "It's been really painful. Marriages change."
"Sometimes they need to be reimagined and transformed. Sometimes they are simply over... but either way, I pray the folks going [through] this painful transition find the patient and the love within to not throw the "˜babies' out with the bath water."
In another recent interview, her husband explained just how the Smiths have "reimagined" their marriage.
"We don't even say we're married anymore," Smith told Tidal's Rap Radar podcast. "We refer to ourselves as life partners, where you get into that space where you realize you are literally with somebody for the rest of your life."
"There are no deal-breakers. There's nothing she could do "” ever. Nothing that would break our relationship. She has my support 'til death and it feels so good to get to that space."
"Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so."
Smith has talked about the deep trust he shares with his wife in the past, and it even inspired unusual rumors that the couple have an "open marriage."
In 2005, the actor kicked off the spicy rumors by saying, "If it came down to it, then one [spouse] can say to the other, 'Look, I need to have sex with somebody. I'm not going to if you don't approve of it "” but please approve of it.'"
It took until 2013 for Pinkett Smith to address the rumors, clarifying that despite what's allowed in their marriage, she and her husband are happy together.
"Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so," she wrote on Facebook. "This does NOT mean we have an open relationship."
The actress may have finished off the rumor for good last year, when she told an interviewer the "craziest rumor" about her family was that she and her husband were seeing other people.
"That's the craziest one. It's constant. And I'm like, 'Yo, I wish!'"
Season 2 of Red Table Talk premieres October 22.
