New York state troopers and officers from 2 counties proved that this week when they came together to comfort a fallen officer's family with an unforgettable gift.
They were brought together by the death of Trooper Joel Davis, who was shot while responding to a domestic violence call. The 36-year-old was a father of three and a pillar of his community.
Along with coaching local baseball teams, Davis is remembered by his fellow officers for training new recruits. In fact, the trooper who finally caught the man that allegedly shot Davis is one of his old students.
5,000 officers and military members showed up in force for Davis's funeral, but they had one more surprise planned for the officer's family.
