Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is speaking out after being arrested for allegedly attacking her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, with a machete while he was holding the couple's son James.
“Just after 3:00 a.m., on 7.5.2019, officers were called to [address] reference a disturbance. Officers spoke to the male victim who stated his live-in-girlfriend and he were having a disagreement,” an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department statement read. “During which time the female, later identified as Amber Portwood assaulted him, while he was holding their one-year-old child.”
Amber was charged with domestic battery, a felony charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon after “[striking] the machete at and into a door, while Andrew Glennon was standing directly on the other side of the door, that created a substantial risk of bodily injury to Andrew Glennon."
She was also charged with a third felony for “knowingly touched Andrew Glennon, a family or household member, in a rude, insolent, or angry manner and Amber L Portwood committed said offense in the presence of a child less than 16 years of age, knowing that the child was present and might be able to see or hear the offense."
Since the alleged attack, Amber has been relatively silent about it all. However, in a new Teen Mom reunion episode, she's sat down with Dr. Drew to explain what really happened.
“I want to get my side of the story out,” she said in the interview. It starts out with clips from the show, and then proceeds to play the 911 dispatch recording.
“I received a text message from somebody saying that their life and their son’s life is in danger," the recording from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
Amber is quick to scoff at the recording, specifically how 911 was contacted.
“A text message, by the way. I just want to point that out real quick to everybody. But I ran after him with a machete,” Amber said sarcastically. “Let me tell you what, if somebody’s coming after me with something like that, I’m calling the f–king police and running out the door.”
Dr. Drew then asked the mother of two if Andrew was making all of this up.
“There’s some narcissism here that I can’t comprehend at the moment,” Amber noted. “If it takes you less than two weeks to ask a woman to come to Indiana… Well, I’ve already talked to her. She’s a good person. She’s very nice, a very sweet person.”
The woman that Amber is referring to is someone that Andrew has been speaking to over text, and apparently flew to Indiana (where he lives) to meet. Although Andrew has denied being romantically involved with her, things are a little weird on that front.
“I opted out of drug court a long time ago to put myself in prison to help myself,” she also said. “Why would I jeopardize...you haven’t heard s–t from me since then. I haven’t got in trouble one time. But all of a sudden, I’m running after my kid and [Andrew] with a machete? You’re insane.”
Andrew's Response To The Interview
The interview garnered over 110,000 views, and many people came to see Amber in a different light. Andrew, however, didn't love the way he was portrayed in the interview, and he began responding to peoples' comments on social media about it.
“She looked very proud in that hate-fueled[sic] ‘interview'" Andrew said. "Which she stood James up to go and do. Actions speak volumes. I pray one day she gets the help she needs and finds her own happiness in life.”
It didn't stop there.
“And what did you learn from the ‘professionals’? … I wish I were asked to give an interview with Dr. Drew. Wouldn’t that be fair?” he said in response to someone saying that Dr. Drew is a medical professional.
“If it were the other way around, I would take my medication,” he said, putting himself in Amber’s shoes. “I’d also be on my knees begging for my family back and doing everything in my power to seek professional help so it would never happen to those I love ever again.”
Someone else suggested that Andrew should keep his private issues private and keep it off social media.
“Want to give me an interview on national TV? Where do you propose I talk about the abusive I’ve endured for over a year?” he asked. "Of[sic] should I just keep it locked up inside. The support that people give helps me through each day. They remind me of all that is good and right in the world. So yes, it does help my situation."
Amber Claps Back
Being the protective mom that she is, Amber didn't appreciate the fact that Andrew said she stood James up. She took to Instagram Live to respond to his social media rant.
Maybe he's jealous because he couldn't get a f—ing interview with Dr. Drew.That's not my problem. The article saying I stiffed James on one of my supervised visits or whatever the Hell it was — I never stood up James one time. I literally... there was only one day that Dr. Drew could fly out. I had a contractual obligation. Literally not in my hands. So he can go f— himself,. I'm saying in general, he can go f— himself. He's a liar. He's been doing nothing but lying, that's all he does. Talking, talking, talking and saying nothing but nonsense.
I'm getting to the point that I'm not going to be able to keep quiet too much longer. To sit there and say that I actually stood up my son is f–in the most disgusting thing that I think you could ever say about me. I had no choice. I had an obligation. I've been doing this s–t for 11 years. I can't say my part. I can't say what I f—n' did. I can’t say what he did, I can't say anything... I know damn well that I’m not gonna be slammed. I’m not playing anymore.
It's really never going to be clear who is right and who is wrong here, but it's probably safe to assume it's somewhere in the middle.
